Jeff I did in my 56 but I modified the plates that bolt to the engine block heavily. Don't understand why it wasn't a "bolt on"

I have it, but I'm not ready to put in an engine yet, so I can't give you any help.

I meant to specify that it is for the 1952-53 cars. We know here we don't need his kits for a 1954-59 and we can save some bucks.

I bought the 15"kit from Butch for my 52.It has 302 with Toploader from 65 Mustang.I had to make an extension/adapter plate for the trans mount.Had to pull things couple of inches forward, otherwise the engine mounts would have been sitting behind the crossmember.
Not a big deal, just a piece of sheetmetal.

They also make a 17" kit it states that both use different oil pans depending on which kit. That being said the later 302 aka 5.0 is a better fit since it uses the later dual sump oil pan and p***enger side dipstick with that 15" kit. Since I have helped a number of folks with this swap I'm beginning to learn Butch's has little knowledge regarding this swap,I sent them the photos you see above hoping to educate their tech people.

Yes,I have the double sump pan.Now with the adapter I made the notch on the pan clears steering link nicely. Also,it wouldnt be possible to use front sump in my 52.The engine would sit really high or you would have to make major modifications for the front cross member. Some of the Butch's kits seem to have a similar plate(that I made) included.
Anyone here or do you guys know of anyone who would have the 17"kit in a 52-53 Ford..?For me it seems that the "longer"kit is for the 54 -up cars or Possibly Mercurys?

I have helped with this swap on several Ford facebook forums so far no 17" kits and one was a '52 Mercury.

Butches sells a extension bracket that needs to be welded on the stock crossmember allowing the trans to move forward a bit and giving it space to clear

These are a few pictures the car has been running and driving for a couple months now and all is well and he is very happy with it. He used a B&M Hammer shifter for the AOD. While he did the swap he also did a 6 volt to 12 volt upgrade.

These pictures show the AOD on the stock trans cross member you only need an extension if you use a C4 (Butch's has not corrected that yet on their website) :(:( Because if someone buys the kit and wants to use a C4 they will get held up on their installation thinking it will be OK which it will not without an extension.

Yeah mine is already sitting on top of the original cross member. I had already fabricated a extension thinking I was going to use it and that’s when I realized it was longer. This is the bracket I was going to weld to the original cross member. I’ll make my cut this weekend. Plus I have rusted floors I need to repair too C9E62F63-62A4-4AD7-BBCC-00EF80C5FB1C.jpeg CF87F993-A1CC-48AA-AE02-9A51D9E37C99.jpeg 244E283E-AEBF-434A-8262-BB0F1225E3CD.jpeg

Question for you guys who had to make extension/adapter plate;what kind of a driveshaft are you going to use?

Stock rear end, yes. My shaft is from a-79 LTD,with the conversion u-joint it fits but it is s bit too short.Might be OK wit longer yoke, not the right way,I know.. I was just thinking if someone had found correct driveshaft for this C4/toploader in 52/53 with Butch's 15" set up!
Having a new driveshaft made ain't exactly cheap here!

Do you still have the stock '52 drive shaft ? Most the 1952- late 80's Fords used the same front U-joint so if you use the yoke from your '79 shaft on the '52 shaft it may come out right.

Well yes but my -52 was an overdrive car so the stock driveshaft is even shorter than the LTD shaft.
Might just have to have a new one made.

Different vintage, but how much shorter is it than ideal? I needed an inch to make my setup perfect, and was able to get that by changing to a hd racing taller yoke for the differential, and totally avoided having to have any alterations done to the driveshaft. Mine was the oem 9" though, for which just about anything is readily available. Not sure if they make them for '52 differentials, but would be worth a little checking, but of course Jeff probably already knows the answer

When I did my '54 I used a 1986 Crown Vic/LTD drive shaft and a NEAPCO 2-0291conversion rear U-joint to bolt up to the 5.0 & AOD this will work in 1952-56 Fords as long as the AOD is NOT from a Lincoln because in my case I did have the driveshaft shortened 1 1/4" since my donor was a 1984 Lincoln MK VII. I helped a lot of guys thru this swap if the donor is a regular Ford full size or a Mustang the Crown Vic shaft is the correct length,1982-86 Crown Vics interchange. Problem is finding those mid 80's Crown Vics, we have an all Ford salvage about 2 miles down the road all their drive shafts are laid out and tagged from what they came from it just came down to me an my trusty tape measure to pick the right one. A fair amount of guys I helped thru these swaps back then were able to find Crown Vic shafts.

Lincoln AOD's are about 1 1/8" longer than standard AOD's.
