So here's my dilemna... I've got a perfect, leak free, original 1930 Model A gas tank, primered and ready to go. I've decided to reverse my firewall, which will require me to cut up the gas tank. Original parts in great condition are getting rare and pricey, so I'm feeling guilty about cutting up such a nice gas tank. I could use a reproduction cowl top if it matches up to the cowl nicely, then sell the original tank to someone who needs a really nice tank...maybe to a restorer... Anyone using a nice cowl top reproduction? What can you tell me about the screw flange on the front? Hole alignment with the firewall? Will the side flanges work with the original clamps that clamp the tank to the cowl sides? Thanks!
Can't answer your question about the aftermarket one but I may be able to offer a trade on tank sections. I am going to be getting mine delivered any day now and the outside is supposed to be good. I want to run the tank on my next build. Interested in a trade? If so shoot me a pm.
I have used the brookville tank top twice. Very well made part. Most recent experience was my customer sold his good tank and added a few dollars for the brookville tank top. It was cheaper considering labor to cut out old tank and fill gas inlet opening. Kind of a nobrainer if you have a nice stock tank and want to recess your firewall. Good used model A tank value aound $200 Brookville tank top about $250 Steve
Same comment from me, I have built two Brookville bodies, ever thing fists like a glove. They have done there home work. I even installed an original tank in a Brookville 29 roadster body and you probably got a better fit from them then from Henry. DON'T cut the tank, its almost the only thing you can't buy new, and some one will definatly want that one.
Far more rotted out tanks with good tops than useable ones. Sell it and get a Brookviller incert. I got a hell of a deal on a cut out top years ago, just need to weld up the filler hole.
The Brookville tops do require some tweaking but that is to be expected when mating it to 80 year old tin.
ive got one here and it doesnt have the front ridge a stock tank has to keep the cowl band in place...something to consider...
