I'm curious as to what is involved converting to hydroboost brakes on my 54 Vicky. I basically understand what needs to be done just wondering if someone has already went through the trail and error on a 54 and can tell me what parts work. I'm going to do it since I'm running power steering, just want to head off wasted effort and money, thanks. Ralph
I used a '02 Mustang GT Hydroboost in my '57....don't know how relevant it is to a '54 but many of the issues will be the same regardless. Some small issues to deal with.include cost of hoses...you'll need up to 6 hoses if you're using a cooler and****uming your steering box/rack has a return line you'll need to figure a way to get two return lines hooked up. My setup used a remote reservoir, so I had a stainless replacement made with two return lines (reasonable at 125. I thought). A pita was rigging up the pushrod as I had very little room to work with. If you have disc brakes you'll need to match up the caliper requirements to the piston size in the hydroboost. I was told any Mustangs older than '01? had a smaller, inadequate piston for the Granada discs. Firewall mounting wasn't too big an issue..2 of the studs matched the '57's oem holes. I just had to cut off the other two and drill 2 holes for bolts. If you're talking salvage yard stuff, like I did, remember most of the late model cars are metric, so you'll be looking at adapters on those hoses...I ran AN6 all around. I got my adapters (banjos actually) at www.purechoicemotorsports.com If you're looking at new stuff...here's a link to a company that specializes in Hydroboost. I wish I had known about these guys when I got mine years ago. http://powerbrakeservice.net/new-1953-1970-ford-full-size-hydroboost-brake-booster.html The Mustang unit I got from the salvage yard had a proportioning valve attached, but I ended up not uing it in favor of a more user friendly Wildwood unit with a low pressure brake switch.
seriously considering it on my 56. Been reading a lot about it the last year and I am going to Borgeson P/S. Good info Texas
