to me, its sounding like if you're doing light tube or sheet metal brazing where heat needs to be at a minimum, or for cutting, then propane is your gas... might just keep the acet bottle full for welding, and keep a tank of cheaper propane handy for cutting at my place

  4. myself....I have used propane exclusively for cutting for 40 yrs.

as for welding/brazing I keep acetylene on hand just for that purpose.

as I mentioned previously, propane does not work w/welding tips designed for acetylene.....

if I want to heat or bend w/propane then I use the cutting torch w/propane designed tips...

yea. i called my welders jobber today and asked about cutting tips... my cost is $13.95 plus the governor so, that with the cost of propane, i think i'll invest in a propane cutting tip, and another oxy bottle so i can have a dedicated setup for cutting and leave my henrob rig on the oxy/acet bottles

awesome information in this thread, thanks for starting it T

  6. Hi fiddyfour.....

you will need a variety of tip sizes for cutting....big tips dont work on thin metal and small tips dont work on thick.

your tips are cheap there...here in canada propane tips are $30 ea.

when you speak of governor, I ***ume you are talking about the regulator?

I use an acetylene regulator for both gases...have for decades...with no ill effects......no special reg is needed....

and the bullnose, left hand thread tank fitting is same for either gas bottles.....ditto for hoses...

all welding fuel gas hoses and tank connectors are l/h thread....

  7. Down here governor means $$$salestax$$!!!

Thanks for your input on this thread. I think I will do like Fiddy and run this setup for my cutting/brazing/bending and then later on add a Meco or Henrob and do an OA setup.
