at least you have an understanding for him,and an interest in the hobby. im not so fortunate with my woman she wants nothing to do with building a car. at least you have the right idea. as for the car i personly cant help much since im not familiar with it, but this place is awesome lots of good folks on here. try finding a fellow hamber close by.
Clean/ grease the input shaft. I had a rusty one in a Toyota in the past, the clutch wouldn't completely release. Took it back out, wirebrushed the helll out of it, greased it, got another 8 years out of it.
time, beer, builiding or doing a small project thats easily acomplished in a short time, that makes me interested.
X3! 29nash...seems you're the one being rude. If there's a problem with her doing this, it's between them. Most guys that have a good relationship with their woman would appreciate what she's tryin' to do here...even if you wouldn't. She may have "vilolated protocol" somewhat, but her intentions are obviously honorable. Claudia...don't pay any attention to this or any other ***-hat opinions...listen to the guys who are willing to help. And to noxided...with ya pal. This stuff isn't easy, and we all get frustrated sometimes. Try not to let your anger get the best of you. Take a step back, as some of the other cool hambers said. Give it some thought...take it apart again if you have to. You'll get it licked. Be careful not to hurt yourself out there too...that can happen very easily when we let ourselves get too pissed. If you have to, start a thread, and ask some questions here on the hamb...that's what we're here for...to help each other...even if some don't get that. If I was closer, I'd be there in a second to help. Here's an idea...go hang out where the local hot rodders and antique car guys are...usually at one of the local restaraunts for breakfast. Strike up a conversation and make some friends. If they're willing to help, take advantage of that. Of course, make an attempt to return the favor. Sounds to me like you might have the wrong-length throwout bearing or maybe an issue with the linkage or possibly a crudded-up shaft like ol'chevy said, or maybe the pressure-plate is junk, and not doing it's job. The best to the both of you. I applaudia Claudia. Rick
hang on,rickybop has a good idea about 'returning the favor' claudia mentioned something about pinstriping in a earlier post? maybe she could ask for a hambers help on the clutch in return for some of her pinstriping? just a thought. i know i would like to have my car striped
Hello Claudia ... Your BF's clutch sounds like the throwout bearing is binding.. I had a warranty replacement throwout bearing installed in Biloxi, back in 1968, in my '67 Impala, and they didn't check the fit... Would shift fine with engine off, but couldn't release clutch properly, due to way too tight throwout bearing... I made them tear it down again and they admitted the issue was theirs. I agree with Old Chevy..posting #32... Something to check, if a different throwout bearing is being used now.. Good Luck!...You both keep your chins up!... Life is good and even better, when the project is done and you guys are cruising with it...duane (NM Sandrail)
Is the clutch new? Did it ever work? How about some back history on the car, and this problem...I know it'll take a few minutes of time you don't have, but it will really help us try to figure out what the problem is.
Just support him which you have by getting on here and asking for guidance and help. Get in touch with some people in your area that have the same taste in cars. Go to a car show, swap meet that might jump start the want too side of his brain and he will be slinging wrenches in no time.
holy **** , am i that drunk ? ********* , pinstriping , beer , pizza . Iam on my way down to texas & i don't even like pizza. I SMELL A RAT .
Thank You everyone it has definately been great help and he really appreciated what i did. Bizzarre doesnt even describe me i think i am unique and how do you not like pizza? I make a really good one!
Going with what I can guess here, throw out bearing needs looking at. Some of the fellas here seem to have ISSUES with women, methinks. Claudia seems like a damn cool lady.
Chili phil i think that could be it he layed off the car for a day and painted his studebacker instead but since im off friday we might get under the merc and check it out. I think the fellas whi have issues just haven't met the right woman yet! thanks for the compliment
Hi Noxided, Going to be in Iola this weekend for folks 50th anniversary. I'll keep up with your thread and wife and I can come by Sunday on the way home and I can give ya a hand if you still are wrestling with it. Another pair of eyes can sometimes help it get moving again. Also got access to lots of older ford parts up here. PM if you want.
Well I have a similar minded Wife/Best Friend. I applaud you for supporting the hobby of the one you love. No one person man or woman understands or knows the keys to all things. It's ok to fail, because failing means you tried and will probably try again until successful. So keep supporting, we are stubborn by nature. All the greats failed miserably more than once, but failure is nothing more than learning a different way. I've learned alot in my life so far and plan to learn at least one thing everyday as long as I can. Besides my wife's already proven time and again she's smarter and tougher than me, I'm just along for the ride now anyways. Transmissions are like everything else, there's somebody who knows it and will help you. Be humble, quiet, and listen. Don't come off like a Jack*** and you'll have a friend for life. I've learned both of these the harder way. Good luck if you were closer I'd help you fix it. Tim
All this sounds great guys. Its actually me this time, not my g/f. I appreciate what she has done and all the help from my fellow hambers. jdj9410, thats sounds like a good plan. Ill keep you updated along with everyone else on here. Good news is that im almost done painting my FordChevyBaker. But the merc is another story
Noxided, I think it's cool as hell your lady is wanting to help. I decided today to build a new A/Fuel FED, my wife said...what's the hold up? Keep at it, you'll get it. Lippy
You are right about that! Remember on the internet you can be ANYBODY you wanna be. I think this thread has run it's course... let's hope Ryan closes it.
as far as the t87 and borgwarner overdrive, they used this trans in everything fro fords studes jeeps nashes you name it, i agree with the throw out bearing but it could be lots of stuff contact hermtheoverdriveguy.com for anything inside the trans, the oldcarmanualproject has the manual for the overdrive. And im happy to see a wife on here, i wouldnt mind if my wife used my account
