I've never thrown away a magazine, probally have it, do you know what the cover looks like? Nothing around here is in order.I do remember reading the article, there is sone die grinding work needed to the case if my memory is correct.

No idea what the cover looks like - I know what you mean, I make a feeble attempt to keep my mags somewhat organized but they never stay that way...

I have it here in hand, but have no scanner. What exactly do you need to know?

    Key points from the article:

You want the top shifter ***embly from a CJ-5 model Jeep. The ones talked about in the article are from the 70s, although for some reason they didn't give the exact year spread for the availability. They did say that the three speed shifter from a 76-77 CJ-5 three speed would fit a late Ford toploader three speed, but no specific year information about the four-speed transmissions. They specifically did not mention whether other models (CJ-7?) would work.

The installation was discussed in the photo captions. Pull the side shift hardware out, clearance the top of the trans case a little. Apparently, the reverse shift fork won't quite fit without a little grinding on the toploader's top access hole. The rest of the article shows how to put the thing together: align, slide it together, make sure it doesn't bind, etc. Not much information, actually. The last picture shows that they appear to have pressed small freeze plugs into the now-unused shifter shaft holes on the side of the trans case.

That is about all I have for now. The magazine is on its way back to its place on the shelf if you have any further questions......

    Animal,

Thanks! Any chance I could talk you into photo-copying it for me? There is no rush - just in the collecting stage right now.

    Thanks!
