I just picked up a 53 customline. It was a runner about 15 years ago so it isn't going to take much but I'm looking for some info about tips and tricks to keep an eye out for. I've got it to rotate and lubed the cylinders a little. Once the battery is charged I'm going to crank it.
First before you start it take a real good look at these pictures https://www.google.com/search?q=eth...HfSnAkYQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1432&bih=726&dpr=1 My '54 had sat about 5 years the crud that was in the tank and fuel lines was awful to say the least, I was able to have the tank boiled out at a local radiator shop at it turned out OK. The sending unit literally fell apart and had to be replaced, while the tank was out I capped off the front of the main fuel line and sprayed as much Berryman Chem-Tool till the line was full and capped of the other end by the tank. After sitting 3 days I blew the line with the air compressor and it filled up half a coffee can with a slimy tar looking goop, so I replaced the entire fuel line system. So before you start it get a fresh Carb kit and filter you don't want that ethanol crud in the system when you start it. Bottom line that ethanol is nasty ****, so any flex lines you need to replace be sure to use fuel hose made for fuel injection as it is ethanol resistant.
I will take a look thanks. I've got a carb kit on the way, I found a new fuel pump in the trunk also so I may throw that on while I'm redoing it all. I plan on dropping the gas tank this week and dealing with that. I ordered a new sending unit with the carb kit.
For future reference to others between the stickies in this social group and on Ford barn you can sort through all the questions I had. Great resources.
