Have AOD in my 56 Ranch Wagon but it's behind a 302. Used mounts listed in the FAQ's, used original crossmember but lowered it about an inch. Had custom driveshaft made. Have new Ididit steering column and Lokar floor mount shifter. Cut out and replaced most of floor due to rot and used universal trans hump so not sure if fits under original floor hump.

I don't personally know anybody that has put an AOD behind a Y-Block. I guess there are adapters out there but really expensive and that is not including the transmission. Went with a C4 because it was much less cost and am running a 2.79 rear gear, does fine on the freeway and is peppy enough for me.

Bendtsen makes the adapters. The TV cable is the most critical part because of the foot feed throttle linkage of a Ford of that era. If you change to a cable like a Mustang and have a GM type carb throttle arm (Chevrolet) there are kits for that.
I’m like nosford… I put in a 3 speed auto with an 8.8 274 rear and an very happy. Starts out in low fine and 70 mph is 2400 rpm.

All the places selling the adapter kits seem to be following the same pricing guidelines,3 years ago they ran $695 now they all run $950. It's not all that uncommon to find good running used 302/5.0 & AOD combos for what the adapter alone would cost which has made swapping out the Y-blocks a popular option.
