Hey all, As some may know I do 3D scanning and design that I either use my 3D printer to make various plastic parts or have CNC machined. Things such as dash panels, 40 Ford horn buttons, etc, etc. Anyways I got a pair of Appleton 6” fog lights I plan to use in my 32. However the idea of having a rock smash the lens and having an impossible task of replacing them drives me crazy. So I took my lens and made a 3D design which I am going to have made in acrylic. Yes it is not the original glass, but there is piece of mind running these on a driver and putting the original packed safe away for special shows etc. Anyways, does anyone have any interest in having them in a group buy? If so I’d need to get a rough quantity idea to negotiate pricing.
Are you going to be able to reproduce this beautiful amber color? Reminds me of the Cat's Eye lens on my '40.
Well the advantage of acrylic is we will likely make them in clear and then you can paint them in a tinted clear from behind to achieve that look. But yes, going for the dark amber.
I think there might be a market for them. This is the kind of thing I've been hoping to see from the 3-D printing technology.
Ya these will need to be machined on a CNC so it can get that glass polished look in the end. But things like 60s market lights with a pattern work well 3D printed. here is the 40s horn button I designed for my 32 to match my custom Lokar shift button
Did some updates on the color and environment on the 3D render to show the detail of the reproduction.
