Yup! Yur lookin at the CAD model of my S-B Winfield throttle barrel (cut in half of course), with an additional sleeve that would reduce down to an A or AA size. Since my pair of B’s turned out to be waaay too big I have been contemplating different options to reduce air volume without abandoning all the effort spent so far. Confident that these could be made and tested in a weekend, rather than the 100’s of hours it would take to create new carb bodies, manifolds, etc…

In my mind, I’m thinking 32 spring perches with an extension bolted and welded.
We’ll see once I get all the parts.

Decent day. Got the engine and trans together and in the frame.
Bolted the intake and carbs on cause I couldn’t help myself.

I was thinking about @walls build, and my own dilemma of wanting to run a dropped axle with mechanical brakes.

Looking at my axle, the track is narrowed due to the drop. The brake actuator rods head inwards, what looks like enough that they will interfere with the original model A shockers, even if I use shorty dog-bones.

so my question is - has anyone narrowed the brake actuators so that they keep their position relative to the shockers? To do this, they must be narrowed between the perch bolt bolt-hole and the spindle.

    Thanks

  8. IMG_6034.jpg Is this running split exhaust manifolds? It looks like and exhaust pipe running straight down where the stock Carb would be, but it also looks like one manifold (although it is kind of hidden).

This is John Bean's car taken from "The Duke Hallock Story" https://patganahl.com/2022/05/02/the-duke-hallock-story/. It says it is a cragar head. I have seen them in this period with a lake header, this one looks like one manifold with two pipes?

Based on the intake manifold that sure looks like a flathead setup. Also exhaust sure looks like a split manifold or an additional center outlet. Fun to try to figure out what we're seeing!

love it...no issues so far... seems to double the hp with that and the 2 to 1 header split dual exhaust... IMG_1296 - Copy.jpg IMG_1297.jpg IMG_8346.jpg IMG_8807[8523].jpg IMG_8808[8524].jpg IMG_8810[8526].jpg

Looks like an engineering masterpiece. Please share what we are looking at and what it’s going into. My guess is landspeed racing.

  22. Well, it is an example of glacial speed engineering....
B block, C crank modded, B rods with inserts, TRW 283 pistons.
This was an untouched Gemsa Morales casting for the head.
I moved the valve locations and put in 2-1/16" intakes, 1-5/8" ex.
The SOHC is a one off design, Brierley cam with Jag buckets and special springs.
Intake is Hilborn 1-11/16" modded for EFI.
Not for Bonneville, is going in my tan '30 street coop.
Nader said unsafe at any speed, this one will be unsafe even while parked!

[IMG]Are the exhaust manifolds custom made or can they be bought somewhere? They look great!

Maybe if it was channeled and was running a hemi, you might want to chop it, but as a banger it is perfect.

The manifolds are fabricated, I posted some pics in last months thread, made in a similar way to the inlet manifold, hrs of work in them! img_4_1710471687303.jpg

Just saw this, maybe someone posted before:
‘Elliot Ness' (Actor Robert Stack) used to race a Model A roadster out on the dry lakes of California. Banger has a Cragar head, Bell Auto intake with dual Winfield carbs and a Mallory distributor.

  30. So, I have a squeaky pilot bearing in my A motor that I would like to change out (along with TO bearing, etc.) this summer. Reading through Fordbarn suggests that a worn transmission input shaft is extremely common with a pilot bearing worn enough to squeak. This leads to the need to sleeve the shaft and have everything turned down to a sliding fit with no slop as when new, with an unworn input shaft.

Wondering if anyone has ever actually encountered this, and is this something I should expect to have to do when I pull the trans out?
