Picked up this quick change a week back for $100, hoping it was early ford compatible, unfortunately it's midget so will look at selling it on or trading for parts. Had to take the gamble on $100 though (around $65USD)

A midget quick change should be plenty strong for a banger. Some sprint car racers are using midget QC's reliably in the 307" class and saving 25 pounds. Check in with the Quick Change threads to see what it takes to put a differential and Ford axle housings on it.

Use it. Hot Rodding is all about adapting what you have or bought cheap to make it work on your car. The only thing that may disqualify it is width. If it's too narrow the cost to widen it may exceed an alternative.

spendingtheirinheritance I saw your car at the Miller Meet in Milwaukee years ago. I enjoyed seeing the car and the story about how you acquired it.

The width is spot on for the 36 rear ends I have, diameter is the issue, this thing is tiny, smaller than A model. Other problem is even with cutting bells and making smaller diameter rings for them to bolt up I'd only be able to run the spool and 5:1 ring gear it came with. Juice isn't worth the squeeze I'd say.

That's a 36 ring gear, and the spool

Any reason not to put a Model A ring and pinion in it with Model A center section and axles? Just asking...

I don't have any A rear ends apart but I believe this is even smaller than an A, ring gear measures 7-1/8OD 4-3/8ID

  12. I was thinking it looked too small also
It looks like a Speedway Engineering Mini Stock QC, not sure

Yes Speedway. They offer the MiniStock for street rods. Those tubes take regular Ford car backing plates and brakes with your choice of axles. You'd probably be better off just sourcing the tubes down under to save shipping etc.
They also offer the center section to accept early Ford bells.

Thank you for the info, it is indeed a speedway engineering piece. I don't like my chances but I'll see what I can turn up down here.

Virginia City Hill Climb has been canceled because the city hasn't fixed the hump in the street that almost launched one of the racers into the crowd, & the FAST club is not going to race on a known dangerous course. We would like to go back AFTER they fix the street.
