Hello gents was wondering if someone could give me a little help I have a small block Chevy with an external coil I changed the plugs and wires recently and upon startup I noticed that

The coil was arcing from both the positive and negative side any suggestions on what can be causing this

    My thought process is

First double check all the electrical connections to make sure they're correct which I did

change out the coil for a new one

I'm thinking an extra ground strap could not help currently there's only one on the vehicle

And that is the extent of what I can think of any suggestions would be appreciated thanks

Open high tension coil wire. If it arcs a long time it will carbon track the coil tower.

That coil wire boot looks loose (too big)? Coil being wet on top. Is it just moister or is the coil cracked? IMG_4730.jpeg

That coil looks pretty dirty and oily. I suggest a complete physical cleaning of the ignition system.

Dirty coil, cracked, and poor fitting boot. I'd swap in a new coil, and bet it fixes the issues.

I'll give it a shot right away I did notice the new coil wire has a cap that is significantly smaller than the last one I'm going to grab the old cap out of the trash put it on and see if that makes a difference

Three people said the same thing I thought even before I saw the photo. DIRT AND MOISTURE plus a possible crack.

Step one, take the coil out and clean it up so it is clean and dry and inspect it closer for a crack.
