Looking to build a 40/41 ford pickup and found a 46 cab. Does anyone know if it is the same as a 40/41? I appreciate the help
there are small differences. The clutch/brake pedals come thru the floor in a different place and the upper front fender mount needs to be removed from the 46 cab if you want 40/41 fenders to fit. You will drill a 5/16 hole there for the 40/41 fender bracket. Go for it! The 40/41 front fenders will not fit the 46 frame unless you want to cut both frames and use the 40 front crossmember. Then you will face multiple problems as the 46 frame is flat and the 40 frame is drppped in the center
42-47 pickups have the gas tank under the seat, 40-41 have the tank behind the rear end. That makes the seat riser and seat different, also front fender mounting at the cowl is different, but only some holes I believe.
Thats the upper fender mount that I mentioned. It has to be cut off and a 5/16 hole drilled in its place to accept the 40 bracket
Also doors won't interchange without modification. The latch ***emblies in the cab are in a different location 40/41 door latch and 46/47 cab latch don't line up. but if you have correct doors it doesn't matter.
So is the bottom line here that you can't use 40-41 fenders unless you want to sub frame with a 40-41 frame? And would that need to be a truck frame?
And if you want hanging pedals in a '40-'47 cab, a '52-'56 Ford car pedal ***embly fits like it was custom made for it.
How about the boxes and rear fenders? Are 46-47 the same as a 40-41? Are they a direct bolt on if you use a 35-40 frame?
Yup, I have a 46 lined up but am dead set on changing the front sheetmetel. As near as I can tell there is no simple fix.
46 cab with a 49-50 box and 46 'gl*** fenders..had to redrill fender mounting holes. Frame was later 4X4 ch***is
I am using a 42 to 47 bed on my 40. Narrowed the bed by 3 inches. Works fine since its not a restoration. Heinzman Streetrods has a catalog which has all of the bed dimensions. I just bolted up the 1940 fender I had to the bed today and it fitted perfectly.
I used a 39 car frame, 46 cab, 40 front fenders and 41 hood. The bed is a new 40 unit and all fits and lines up well. The only issue I had was I had to build my own frame mounting wood kit for mounting the cab. 46 wood would not fit the 39 frame and the same for the 40 wood kit fitting the 46 cab. Due to the floor pan being differant because of the seat mounted gas tank. I mounted the tank in the stock location in the rear.
