  1. I actually just bought a complete model A fordor body today for $500, and a decent frame for $100. I'm gonna go get it later this week. I'll get the pics up then.

  2. but the thing is that some of us dont have to money to dish out for a 2dr so whats so wrong with a 4dr i think they look just as good and can look just as clean as a 2dr...

  3. Combine it with the '60 ragtop I just hauled in that doesn't have a single good body panel on it and have yourself a convertible -

I've Got The 62 Dynamic 88 Olds Ht And I Like The Look Of It Over The 2dr. When Lowered The Thing Is Going To Look A Block Long And That Is Appealing To Me.

Thanks, I photoshopped that. But it's exactly what my mind sees.

I think I may make a move on the 4dr HT, if anything it can be a bitchin parts car for a crappy hardtop.

  8. The roofline's a tad different from one to the other, but I like both styles on these cars. At least with a hardtop you don't have the post in the wrong place, so it's not as obvious until you're up close.

The thing is, with what you want, they were so rot prone it may be a while before a tudor shows up cheap. If I wanted one of these bad, I'd pick up the first runner I found, go up in the junkyard and take the doors, quarters and top off a 2-door, and convert one over into the other. A ton more work, but the odds are you're going to have what you want faster that way.

Then again, I drove a '60 Pontiac 4dr for three years and had a blast with it. I might just buy the first one I could afford and enjoy it as-is.

Wouldn't most of you guys agree that 4 doors lend themselves better to
the custom look than the hot rod look? I guess it depends on the year of the car... Just my .02..

Yep, That's a GOOD use for 4 door cars.
    Dirt track jalopy racers.
That way when ya get Tboned in the doors, you can probably get the two new "parts car" door skins for about free instead of paying money for a two door door and a whole 1/4 panel and be back in the action next week end.
That makes sense, but notice all the pillars are gone so it LOOKS like a hard top, and the tow car is a two door...

Also, I you have the talent and/or ambition to replace rotted floors, chop tops, weld up two piece hoods and change headlighs and tail lights and dashboards, you can move the B pillar back and stretch the front door to 2 dr length or replace it with one along with all that stuff.

Another case where I'll gladly say Yea, that's a cool rod, or custom, (without even thinking the qualifying "for a 4 door") is if the owner get's his own wheel chair out of the back suicide door, like the Chet Herbert's of the world need to do.

Or you can do this with them; http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=122073

  12. Nothing wrong w/ 4-doors. Especially the early (30's and 40's) models.

With a little imagination and determination, they could make really cool rides; just like a 2-door itself.

  13. That is what I am shooting for this is what have! I hope I ever get around to the body mods part but If not I will have to be a Four Door Daddy!

My son owns a '64 Olds 98 four door hardtop. Beautiful and long with lots of glass, it is a six window version, wingvent, front door window, back door window and reversed non-functional wing vent window right in front of the C pillar. NICE car!

I think 4 doors are a cop out. You come across a 50's car and have a little money saved up doesn't mean you should jump into a 4 door. To me it sounds like the guys who have them like them but seriously is that the car you really thought you wanted to drive. Jumping on a fat chick now and then is fun as well but when it comes down to it your friends are making fun of you behind your back.

Great topic for discussion. Of course, if you read thru the link in my signature, you'll see what I like to do with four door cars.

But then again, I do have a few four door drivers. I don't think it's going to be a craze, but they are out there and there will be more of them coming. Those people who stand on their two door hardtop pedistal and piss on everyone else have a serious attitude problem.

I think the new "craze" is going to be later model cars cut down to early roadster size to build hotrods. We are already seeing mid to late 30's cars running fenderless, lots of rods based on 30's thru 50's pickup cabs, and even a few 50's and up bodies narrowed up to Model A dimensions and attatched to early cowls (I can think of at least 3 here on the HAMB).

There are still TONS of 50's and 60's cars running around, but the 20's and early 30's stuff is drying up, so we'll be seeing lots of resourseful builders building interesting open wheeled rods from some not-so-ordinary sheetmetal.

I guess the point is you should always ask what others think first... Sorry, but fuck all that. Do what you can with what you have.

no i doubt that any collecter or guy with cash would realy consider buying a 4 door for as much as a 2 door. 4 doors will always be left over for the guys like me with change in there pockets.

My more-door is the red-headed-stepchild of 50's cars, and the extra pair of doors confirm that. But that's what I like about it, I suppose... Nobody else has one.

  28. I can picture a pile of conversions happening where a 4 door gets a set of 2 door sedan doors and pillars added. Seen a 55 Chebbie at the Canats on the weekend with 2 doors on one side and one door on the drivers side. Plate said 3 door....

Where I would prefer a 2 door car, I got a really good deal on my '48 4 dr plymouth. Plus it has suicide doors w/ shaved handles. So I guess its not too bad, right?

In fantasy world, I would have a 1956 2 Door BelAir in a 4 door garage behind my house. In reality though, I am lucky to be able to keep my '53 more door BelAir on the road.I am a plant worker who barely lives from paycheck to paycheck, so I am glad to have found my '53 for the price I got it for.Antique rides here are scarce and affordable ones are more rare than finding a gold nuggett. When I was younger, the deals were everywhere, but now it seems that only people with big bank accounts can afford the car of their dreams.Maybe one of these days, my wife will hit the lottery and I can have that '56 like my Dad owned in the 60's, but until then I enjoy the attention my primered '53 gets.
