Oh shit that blue flat-top is wicked! I love GM 59-60 flat-tops, one of my favorite body styles. I found a 59 Buick flat-top running around, left a note in the car, but they never called me. Hard to find the 59 buicks like that. I always liked the roofline on the 55-57 GM 4dr hard tops, really good shape.

Someone wanna tell me why I should give a flying fuck at the moon about what anyone else thinks of my car?

Here's some weirdness... What if you took a 4 door and welded the front and rear doors together making one gigantic door? Even weirder, what if you mounted it on one of those Lambroghini style hinge kits that are all over the place now? I know, it would be a lot of work, it would be too heavy, etc, etc, yadda, yadda... But if you could pull it off it would be COOL.

Also, any 4 door with rear hinged (suiside) rear doors gets a couple of extra cool points in my book, thus making it tolerable.

It's not about what you start with.....it's the finished car that is important. Here's my next project....I've got the original Darrell Mayabb artwork that inspires me....I had actually started building it when the roadster came my way....gotta find another four door.

Don't you know they stopped making cars in '67?

I thought that I should offer some form of feedback on this, as I'm 30 years old, born in '75, and also from "our" generation. A 4 door is still grandma's car. Don't get me wrong, I've owned some more-doors ('55 Chevy 4 dr shitbox, really clean '63 Impala 4dr), and I still have one right now (triple black '95 Fleetwood Brougham...300 horse LT1 makes it a great "sleeper") so there are alot of 4 door cars out there that I dig...especially if that was all i could afford...but the coolness factor always felt a bit smaller...

Every one of these old 4 doors I had was bone stock, and I guess that has a bit to do with it too. If you've got a 4 door and you decide to cut it up, that's something entirely different...I can always appreciate hard work and struggle...One of my favorite cars of all time started its life as a four door...Dave Paras's '51 Merc (glassguy)...it's wicked, but it's also now a 2 door...

I guess what I'm trying to say is that not all of us "youngins" on here have been influenced by the general population's acceptance of 4 doors as "sporty" ...maybe I haven't been swayed because I don't accept what the general population accepts as "cars" these days either...

Would I build a 4 door? Yes but it would depend on what it would be I was working with. Any of the cars that have been pictured on this post are bitchin looking rides that I'd be proud to own...I was just at Abomber's shop on Saturday and saw his wicked cool '50 Merc 4 door project...loved it...but you're not gonna see me diggin on 4 door Ford Grenadas...or even 2 door Grenadas for that matter...(did they make a 2 door?...ah, who cares...)

Bottom line is, I'm not trying to start a pissing match...Who really cares if its got 17 doors? Build what you can and get out there and have some fun with it..that's what its all about!

And I'm sorry, but this picture is just sick and wrong...:D

    Exactlly.

Also, here's a pic of Glassguy's Merc that started as a 4 door. Prime example of the statement above.

fuckin rad. How did it take you so long to show us that.

  12. Shit Dave, I've been dragging that up on the HAMB for years now. The only requirement for membership is that you have a 4-door car. If you whine about wishing it was a 2-door we burn your shirt and you get a cinderblock dropped on your roof as a lovely parting gift. :D

now that I'm done staring for about an hour at JOHNNYB327's avatar of that chick shakin it......I think the best way to decide is to just get both a 4 door and a 2 door. I'm reminded of something a buddy once said "you know what's cooler than an old car? TWO old cars!"

    I agree.

It takes too long and too much money to build any car, let alone one you are "settling" for.

I have not settled for a four door. I spent years looking for a 1964 4 door Impala with posts and window frames, in good condition. I found it about 4 or 5 years ago and it's going all custom as you may have seen in my last post on this subject. It's been lowered 2" with four wheel disc brakes a warmed over what was a 327 along with a 700R4 trans.

The point of this whole project? I do not like SUVs. They are not cool. I have a wife and one son, and a big dog. I do not like mini vans. I like this car and now it's totally shaved to boot! Except for the new bumpers. On top of all this good fortune, friends can get in and out with grace which has taken me a few years to learn, but grace is what life is all about, especially God's grace.

more doors, more fun. I love the lines of a 59/60 bubble top sedan. Don't gimme that flat top stuff though... I think that ruins the look, kinda like settin a pancake on top of an airplane.... oh wait.. they did that... god those navy planes were ugly. Anyway. I love a 4 door, great for loadin up with people, you can do the whole limo driver thing, and with all 4 or 6 windows open, it's like a convertable.. only with a top :) I'd rather have my sedan over a coupe any day... but gimme a convert and maybe I'll trade. Maybe.

    Peace
    Chris

  28. hell no! the same guy has a 39 deluxe 2 door sedan with 51,000 original miles a 40 deluxe 2 door sedan with 37,000 on the clock and is the most original I've ever seen, a cherry 32 5 window 60's survivor. a 57 buick roadmaster convert that is like new, he has bought 22 low mile cherries in the last 2 months I HATE HIM (he says in a jealous fit) I really don't know where he finds them. I just do his glass work. he always tells me what he bought them for and I never ask the sale price. I can't afford all of them dammit

  29. ok now i didnt know if a 59 4dr would look right if the backdoors were welded in but damn i found this pic of one and i was amazed makes me want to do it also ...tell me what yall think...

i still like my 4dr but i tell you this i havent seen a 4dr transformed in to a 2d that looked this damn clean...

I was taught growing up that 4 doors were parts cars. Period.

The past 5 or 6 years though, I have seen some pretty wicked 4 doors that I really like. That was shocking... a four door can be that cool? Apparently it can.

As the older guys start to die off and the younger guys get into it, they won't have that prejiduce because all the modern cars are all 4 doors. In fact they will probably want 4 doors cause that's all they've ever known.

I am going to have to build some kind of 4 door in the next 5 years. Except for my chevelle, all my cars are coupes plus the cabriolet. I will need a 4 door to haul the family. Most likely I'll do something with my Dad's 4 door '36. Although the Mrs would probably like it if it WASN'T yet ANOTHER '36. Gasp!
