Good points, everyone has their own tastes...I liked the '50 one-piece rear window, so paid $175 in '59 for my first '50 Merc...then realized that customizing was harder than Rod & Custom made it look.

  3. Great shots Bob, I forgot about those. That last shot across the rear windows kicks ***. The chop and belt line trim on yours is great.

seemed like 51's went for a little more money when i built my wife's 50, which was ok because i liked the 50 rearend better anyways, course this was 10 years ago so interesting to see people say 50's are more desireable today

I have to say the most desirable one is the one you end up with........lol......to me it has been any of the three but with determination I ended up with this 50......:D........... and it started getting my 9 year old son into cars and this is his favorite....lol

I always wanted the 49 moredoor, finally got one day before yesterday! I have had quite a few mercs, always liked the 49 dash, I like the 51 merc if it has the 56 packard taillights....but not when they have the stock lights.. Jim

I'll second that. Better looking door handles too. (If anybody still leaves them on.):D

I have a cherry 50 merc, unreal condition, car sold at auction in2007 for 46 k , I bought it this year to chop rod it but it is to nice to touch, still has mohair headliner, marvel mystery oil injector, mirror on p***enger visor,60k miles. will sell for 33k delivered or possibly trade for rod.

  10. I think a '49 or a '50 would be worth more because more folks like the back window on those versus a '51 rear window. But they are all hard to find now so the '51 wouldn't be worth that much less.

This is my friend, Anthony's '51 four door. He's in his seventies but he drives it like he stole it and when I'm following him on the turnpike to a show at close to ninety in my '37 chebby, it's impressive. It's like being in the wake of a big sports fisherman going up the Intracoastal waterway.

You go to look at three STOCK Mercs, side by side,'49,'50,and '51,all the same color, same condition, same model, etc,it comes down to preference. It's not like comparing a '31,'32,and '33 Ford. They're completely different. 49-51 Mercs are almost the same, besides the rear fenders and rear window on the 51. Kind of like the 46-48 Fords. Almost identicle.

    Give me a '51.

Make it the one flamedabone here built please!! I think it's the most sinister, perfect custom Merc I've ever seen.

I don't think their is a value difference.

I do think the 50 is the one that gets more attention.

When most people see one of these cars they say "50 merc" automatically.

It just flows and gets tossed around more like 32 Ford, 40 Ford, 57 Chevy, 59 Cadillac, and so on.

That says it for me, unless you're talking stock they all get customized and hard to tell what year.
