As I have said before, I like Coker for their involvement in the hobby, their period tires are great for that exact resto, but for a driver........no way.[/QUOTE]

I agree ! Im thinking less advertising {every auto publication on earth} & more money put toward a cure !

Never owning a set of Cokers, I can vouch for them going above and beyond for Brucie when he was having trouble with the bias repo's on his car. They definately went above and beyond to make it right.

Just got a set with only a couple of hundred miles on them from a friend. Never hung so many weights on a rim trying to get a smooth ride. Same thing I read in several posts before. You can tell without looking when you are near 65mph. Throw my cheap blackwalls with minimal balance on and am going smooth at 80 before I realize I've gotten that high. Rotation and 3 balance jobs made little difference. Will only be able to run them on my other low and slow cruiser........ Seems a shame for the price.

The one performance shop I asked to do a high speed balance said Cokers had been a problem for him too. Would be a $25 per tire charge just to determine that they won't balance well.............

Only bought one set, ran them on my V-Rod, slicks on the rear and 5.60's on front with tubes, ran out just fine, no complaints...

My 55 Lincoln came with a set of Cokers made in 2005, the car drives great, balls on straight, no problems or vibrations.

All I know about Cokers "in person" has to do with this one set, I have likely put more than 10K on these tires.

  9. herd bad stuff.....guy i know had one out of round, had ****er replace it after they recharged for the tire..still out of round. he took it to a recap shop where they made it tru, but it was nearly bald after that.

I'll just leave this here for your consideration. This was my second to go bad. 16,400 miles. Yes, I am still alive.

It troubles me greatly that that is more than a minor tire failure. It also trouble me that this is the OP's first post with no intro, no personal data shared. Both aren't right. We need more information. Like conditions under which the tire failed, how old is the tire-is it as old. as this thread? What did Coker say when you told them about this incident?

This one wasn't a Coker, but this happened just sitting in my garage on a hot summer day. They just don't make'em like they used to...... 0615011743.jpg

Diamond backs ain't without their problems,2 out of 4 whitewalls split,BTW,they all had the proper amount of air and were not run slack.

I'll stick to bias ply if I want whitewalls.HRP

I've been running wide Diamondback radial wide whitewalls on my OT daily since late 2007. That's a bunch of tires. Only problem that I ever had with them was that they eventually wear out. :)

Would you like to see the video? I have a dash cam in my car... 60 mph on the highway. Beautiful spring day. I am currently negotiating with Coker tire and will get back to you. The last time this happened, they only met me halfway to replace the tire. This time, I told them I no longer wanted their product on my car and wanted to replace all the tires. We'll see what they say. Sorry you doubt the authenticity of my post. I joined the forum to warn other owners about this. Luckily, I was able to control the car and get it off the highway. If someone had been in the left lane beside me, I would likely not be writing this now.

Here's an update on my tire situation. Hopefully you can see the video of the blow out above. (Sorry for the expletive!) I have come to what I feel is an equitable deal with Coker Tire. They will be replacing all four of my tires and changing them to another brand. I am happy with the deal they made with me and will continue to do business with them in the future. As closing advice on this topic, I did have my tires checked before my trip. (inspected, balanced and rotated.) I guess my service people missed the bulges in the steel belt or it developed on the trip. Regardless of this, my advice is to check your Coker tires and if they are cracked, bulging etc. contact Coker before you hit the road.

This subject has been beaten to death on this and other sites. Do your homework before buying Coker's. I had Coker's on my car and the inner and outer edges were worn like a severe under inflation. This was on all four tires. I kept them at the recommended 35 PSI. Rear right developed a half tennis ball blister on the whitewall. At about 12,500 miles I decided they were unsafe. Took the pictures to Hershey and talked to the Coker people and was told "Coker tires are for show cars, not drivers". They basically told me tough s**t. This was also posted by several others, so I'm not the only one that was told this. I now have B/F. Goodrich, wide whites for about 15,000 miles and very little even wear.

I have to admit..........i don’t understand trying to make a radial tire to look like a bias ply?
When I want radials.......I buy “real” radials made for modern cars.
I have used Coker bought 16” Firestone bias ply big n little combos now on 5 of my Hot Rods Over a period of 16 years and have had very good service from them.
As mentioned, it is part of the experience of a Hot Rod and I enjoy it.

I cant stress enough how much i hate coker tires now, i just bought a set of l78 coker cl***ic www, they are 3/4 inch out of round and wobble shake violently, both tires shops said the same thing. they were on my 55 Chrysler, i am buying diamondbacks for my Studebaker.

if you want to die buy a coker. thats thier new slogan. should be.

I have 3 vehicles with Coker Cl***ic radials and I have never had a problem in 10 years. I did recently replace a set that was 10 years old, just for safety sake.

I did have a problem with some Goodyear radials. Had 3 go down suddenly at interstate speeds. I finally figure out that I had the tire dealer had put some bad Chinese valve stems on my wheels and the centrifugal force would lay them over and they would split....suddenly. I put metal valve stems in and have had no more problems.
