They were when Doug still owned them. They now belong to Pertronix so I am not sure but I would assume that they are as they are still located in So Cal.

Headman is still located here in Michigan...

  4. I just seen Kenny Asche, and he works there. I got mine from him, so I 'assume' they are. I could be wrong.. it wouldn't be the first time!

Why not call them and ask? Or shoot them an email.
I have done that when making a purchase and wanted to no the country of origin, on the part or parts I was buying.

Any chance you can post a picture or two of them installed? I'd love a set of them for my '65. I hada set of Doug's on my old '67 Malibu and they were beautiful. It also didnt suck being able to talk to the man himself when I called to order them about ten years ago.

  10. No, we make them across the border in Tijuana. All design and R&D is done in Irwindale CA

  13. I bought mine more than 8 years ago. Thanks for the info. I asked Kenny if he worked with Jaime. He said he didn't know him, so he must work for her at Thorleys. So I assumed(sorry), that he still worked at Dougs. I don't know

Sandy Belond was building headers in Mexico in the 1960's. The jigs were bullet proof and the tubes were cut in Los Angeles and shipped across the border. Excellent workmanship. As I recall, the duty was for the added value and not for the complete unit.

  15. Don't know who Jamie is either - No one at Doug's or PerTronix by that name either. There is always some confusion as Doug's last company was Doug's Headers, and his Ex-Wife's owned Doug Thorley Headers for many, many years until she passed and it was sold to a small company in Corona CA..

  16. And Hooker moved all their header production to Mexico in about 1984, as well as Cyclone, Black Jack, Casler and others.

  17. Where do you get this info???? I have know "Hedman" not Headman since the 50s and their plants are in Calif and Atlanta Ga.

As a bonified buy American parts for my American Hot Rod guy, can't say I would mind too much if some stuff comes from Mexico. There's already a long standing history of cooperation, given the upolstery that has been done there since the forties. And we aren't talking slave labor either, plus I think common sense regulations have a bit to do with it as well. (as a side note, one of our local factories, Schick, tried to set up a razor blade plant down there, and gave it up due to workforce quality issues, among other problems.) Go figure.

"Labor rates".....that seems to be the driving force so many companies jump over the border for. What a shame...... Are the headers availible for less to the public now that the company has saved in labor costs? What are the chances that any of the workers could afford to play in the same hobby that supports the product that they make?
Henry Ford had the right idea, pay his workers enough that they could afford the cars they built.
Sorry if this offends but I am tried of watching company after company moving their factories out of our country. It becomes really offensive when almost all of their product is sold within the same country they ran out of.

If it were that simple. My aircraft job in Los Angeles went away because of new Calif EPA regs. You cannot clean everything with Simple Green!!!

Should just say made in America, that would be a true statement.

  24. I was told looking at old Hooker branded headers that the ones with hearts around the collector were USA and the ones with bdages were American, any input on this hotroddon? And I understand the move, it is the "Global Economy" we all are involved in no matter our denial.......

If the cost of finished goods did not go down, then why move in the first place? Just make them here and be done with it. Dont understand.

Don't want to get this shut down for being political, but there's more to "labor rates" than wages. The state laws, regulations, and taxes are one element, but then if you want to really get freightened, the federal agencies are monsters. People just don't seem to get this very often.
It's not that American workers can't compete, and aren't, in most cases, better than most other countries. It's that they are over-protected, and business in the US way, way over regulated, at the expense of the American worker. Meeting OSHA regulations in a manufacturing environment, for instance, is about a $12,000.00 initial liability for the employer. Who can afford such nonsense?
I'd bet most of the business owners here, at least the one's with growing, successful, above board businesses, could melt your brains with horror stories we have to deal with through taxes, regulations, fraud, etc.
    There. I'm done! ;)

I cant afford what we make here. Dont want one. I want an intake scoop, but thats another story. No matter how big the company is a few bogus disability claims or a knucklehead calling the EPA over an imagined wrong and VOILA' hecho en Mexico.
Or third rate hedders or whatever. We have a list of every owie and reportable incident we have to go over every month at staff meetings. They are rediculously insane. "A dumpster lid fell on my finger". Ya didnt see it coming?
It is a contract year though.

The speed equipment industry in southern California has had a target on it's back since the 1960's. Between the EPA and the California Air Resources Board (CARB), it's impossible to meet their standards and make a profit. Throw in some product liability attorneys and you have a real cluster fuck. Ever notice all of the ads in HOT ROD and in catalogs for speed equipment that say: Not Legal In California on Street Driven Vehicles?

This just didn't happen last week. For more than fifty years, the speed industry has been the whipping boy for environmentalists, right to work groups, and anti-internal combustion engine factions

This is really not political, but a fact of life.
