If you use Edelbrock carbs, the crap red sign can be pried off with a screwdriver in seconds. Makes them look 100% better.( Tech tip for the day).

Yes they are "traditional" for late '50s top-tier hot rods.

The '58 Plymouths had a different design for the air cleaner, not to mention an optional B-engine (big block) for the first time.

Those air cleaners fetch a good price these days. Here's an interesting and cheap alternative that would look good on a Mopar or a hot rod.

Those are '99-06 Harley-Davidson Twin Cam 88 stock air cleaners. Harley guys throw these things away, you can probably score a pair for nothing if you have some biker friends.

I once read, probably here on the HAMB of someone running marine carbs because they looked more the part.

The first dual quad performance package I saw was in a 1955 Chrysler 300 and it had a automatic transmission. It had been setup by a dealer shop the Drag Races and it did really display some of the characteristics of what was coming from the Hemi engines. In 1956 Chevrolet, Pontiac, and all the Chrysler perfomabce cars (Fury, Adventurer, Dodge and Chrysler) all showed up with a dual quad setup. Ford followed very soon on the 312 Y blocks and so did American Motors on two of their vehicles. I even saw a '53 Hudon 307 setup for oval racing by the factory with dual quads on a custom made intake manifold. It flew to nine world Oval track records too.

The early aftermarket dual quad intakes used the small bolt pattern four barrel carbs that came on Olds 303s, Cadillac 331s, and Buick 322s. Carter, Rochester, and Stromberg all made a version.

A pet peeve of mine is running dual quads on a supposedly traditional engine using these carbs with their neon red Edelbrock logos. Sorry but it only takes a few seconds to remove it. I'm pretty good with old parts, seeing as I've been around so long but without these ugly signs I could not tell if it was an old carb or a reproduction. Pretty easy to tell with them on the carbs.

Hell yeah...as many have already said. I've been running a pair of Carter WCFB's on my Vette for over 8 yrs. I sent them out to Chuck Smith in Cal. for a rebuild back then and haven't touched them since. Sorry about the lousy pic !!!

I'm really suprised we don't see more of them these days. they have to be better performance wise that a bunch of strombergs and in my opinion look jst as good unless you are building the Beatnik Bandit or some other crazy car.

I agree. When I saw the marine carbs this guy was running, he had removed the red Edelbrock stickers and Made in the U.S.A. tag. I'm pretty sure it was here on the HAMB. The picture I posted was the carbs he was running.

I would have left the "Made in the U.S.A." stickers on those....

    60s style Olds with recent parts;

    Edelbrock carburetors (with tags removed)
    Offenhauser intake
    Offenhauser valve covers
    Ross Racing transmission adapter

same thing could be done to make your earlier Olds look and act right too

A 394 Olds in a 34 Chevy circa 1964 DC Ramrods show, Wash, DC. That's traditional enough for me. The car still exists.

Could be wrong, but IIRC the current large neck style, E-series AFB didnt come out till mid/late '63, hence the mid year change to the max wedge intakes, so if you are a stickler, and really trying to get it right, these carbs are a non-starter for any hot rod you are building with a prior to '63 theme, sticker or no sticker. Not trying to start a pissing match for the "screw period-correct you rivet counting elitist bastard" types, just throwing it out there for those who may want to know.

Edit: did a little checking, the large neck AFB debuted in 1961 on the single 4bbl 409, so I got the year wrong. Substitute '61 for '63 in the above post.

Just so everyone knows what I am talking about, first photo is a small-neck AFB with the 4 3/4" air cleaner ring. Second photo is the later style with the 5 1/8" air cleaner ring, same as a Holley. They continued making the small neck style right up to the early seventies, but the large neck like the Edelbrock didnt come out till '61.
