Does Craftsman have lifetime warranties on tools? On all tools?

yea but you still have to go back and swap the tool, I like the ones they sell at lowes and home depot, their brands, same warranty, tools seem better

So at Lowe's and Home Depot you get the same warranty as Craftsman, only at Lowes and Home Depot they have Lowe's Home Depot's brand and they seem better to you.

Did I get all that right?

talking about the hand tools, I know one is cobalt and one is husky, i have a bunch of their stuff, i've beat the hell out of it and i haven't broken any of it yet. and it's all lifetime warranty. Most of the stuff I own is the older blackhawk stuff, I don't know if it's still any good, I exchanged a rachet and the new one was ****. Not sure if it's still made by proto or not. as far as the drill we had one at work and it was garbage. I'm using my VPX one now at home, but I would like to find a decent one thats actually made here. ****sman has really gone to ****.

So if I was going to buy hand tools, you would recommend going to home depot over the Craftsman brand?

yep, i think the craftsman are made in china now. If you can find old ones, grab em,but the new stuff is garbage. I went looking for a new set of nut drivers,I have one set thats twenty years old, is still great, the new version of the exact same set, reminded me of something harbor freight would sell. I have a picture of my roll around somewhere where the slide bearing failed and the drawer fell out. It's only ten years old. their response? we don't warranty the tool boxes except for 90 days.

Yeah most of the tools I have were given to me. I have not bought any brand new craftsman tools. Both the tool cabinents I have are Craftsman but I haven't had a problem. All the Craftsman tools I have were given to me and are old. And when I go to garage sales or flea markets and see Craftsman tools I usually do buy them.

Along with Harbor Freight a neighbor bought a winch 5 years ago and it works fine. I bought a air grinder and it was a piece of ****. Do you find Harbor Freight to have many good things or do you think there ****?

heh heh heh , if you want a cheap *** tool thats going to break, or you have to repair to use, go with the harbor freight. most of their stuff is throw away. they have a few decent items, but not many. keep your old craftsman stuff, take care of it, it will never be made that good again.

I just bought my daughter a bunch of Craftsmen hand tools from Sears. After reading this, I told her to go outside and check,,,,,, ALL say "Made in USA".

WTF?? Isn't WWII over? I served with Japanese troops in Iraq in 2005-06 so get the **** over it.

Also Kawasaki is a name in Japan not just a company. Doesn't necessarily mean it's the same company selling naming rights.

I just want something that isn't going to break, and will last. and actually no matter what people think of them, it's the chinese tools that are junk not the japanese. The japanese actually make some fine tools, the chinese makes cheap tools as fast as possible. I hear people talking about fine quality German tools a lot, weren't they in the same war?

it does make me sad though, when i was a kid, craftsman and stanley always meant quality, now they are junk, no wonder people quit buying here, People selling junk as American quality, makes the consumer ***ume all American tools are the same, then they buy foreign, even though there are decent tools made here. I buy some stuff foreign for specific tools, but I do try to buy here. I hope the high quality tools that places like home depot and lowes are selling will help sway people back here. I remember when store brand used to mean junk and name brand was quality, now it's all turned on it's ear.

If the companies like Craftsman and Stnaley import their tools from other countries, what is that doing for our economy?

it's hard to tell whats made here or not anymore, I know stanley got caught claiming imported tools were made here. there is no telling, it could say made in USA and that means it was packaged here. just hard to tell anymore.

I agree with you, I think Harbor Freight is alright for tarps, bungies, etc, but if you want a good tool to last, I doubt that much items there will make me happy. I think the old Craftsman stuff is great, I don't know much about the new Craftsman tools though. My wife works for Snap-On, they have great tools, pretty expensive for my budget, so I have few.

Years ago when I was like 18 years old I was buying a gasket s****er, I had one in each hand and was comparing. One was twice the price of the other and looked much better. I didn't have much money so I was leaning to the cheap one that to be honest looked a bit flimsy. A much older guy customer saw my dilema and said, "Son, a tool is an investment, what quality of work do you want to do?"

I'm glad that guy spoke up, as I really didn't know what I was doing. The way I took this is to buy good quality tools and you have a better likelihood in producing quality work, depending on your skills of course. USUALLY, you get what you pay for.

Oh, and by the way, I still have the gasket s****er and love it, I've used it a lot over the years and it's the only one in my tool box, and I'm 40 now. Just something to think about.

yea you can buy the cheap tool that is a third of the price of the good tool, then replace it three times. So might as well buy the good tool to begin with. saves the h***le. I looked at Walmart on the tool isle yesterday, couldn't find anything made in the US at all. I love the black and decker thing on the back of the package. BLACK AND DECKER USA!!!! made in china.

I've got a 10 year old DeWalt cordless drill that I use often. It's starting to slow down as of recently but still does the job.
I was looking for a jig saw last summer and the ones I looked at @ the big stores looked like garbage.
I went to a car show/swap meet last summer and found an old (I mean OLD) Black & Decker one for $5! That thing will take you for a ride!
Alot of my hand tools are hand me downs from my father (Snap-On, Craftsman, S-K, Proto etc.) and were made in the 50's, 60's and 70's.They look and feel alot better than the stuff thats made nowadays.
I don't look forward to buying anything new anymore, nothing seems to last.
