Hmmm, so parts made in the 60's arent traditional?? I dont really understand this, the newest type of SBC valve covers were made in '68 easily right on many of our traditional cars after all they didnt use only use Pre '64 hot rod parts on a 1964 car.

Hot Rod Dec. 1966. I don't consider that the early 60s:D The earliest magazine or catalog that I have that shows them. Nothing in 62,63 that I have. This is the first iteration with no circles or bow ties for breathers. The circle knock outs were added in later castings. The first type had the polished flat area too. I never saw them in the "early 60s" The ones in the 69 mags had the circles for possible breather installation.

Anybody have an earlier magazine with them pictured?

BTW the first picture in the cl***ified is a cherry 36 3W daily driver with mint body...best offer over $750

I have a '64 m/t catolog that has them, i'm sure they sold them earlier, BUT on sbc's when they took away the intake oil fill they added the bosses for oil fill and breathers on M/T valve covers, in i believe '68

I had the same problem except with "WEIAND" valve covers. I shaved the word off and now to polish and place either a 283 or 327 emblem in the center.

Hey does anyone have a copy of HOT ROD's 60th anniversary issue magazine that shows the most influential hot rods of all time? (January 2008 edition) Look at page 62 picture of Shirley Muldowney's first dragster. Take a look at the valve covers! Mickey Thompson. Picture is from 68. Can anyone scan this picture in. I don't have a scanner. On a side note take a look at her ***s. I don't think she is wearing a bra boys. It must be real cold! lolololol

I have a copy of an ad somewhere from 64 showing them for sale for a bunch of different applications. They list aluminum small block ford's for 39.50, which is funny because I just bought a pair for my 289 build for $35 shipped lol. just made me chuckle, took 45 years to get my $5 discount.

The character on the Gabriel Hijackers air shocks sticker. All the "street racers" in the 70s&80s had 'em on thier rear Chevelle windows if the shocks were under the car. Kept the L60 tires from rubbing. Sometimes.:D

Unnamed Cal Customs would more be dated late '50's early '60's. M/T's more late '60's early '70's. For a '40's to '50's era chrome plated would be more appropriate.

I have a set for Pontiac that came off Dad's 61 when he traded in 63. Brother put them on but I don't remember if it was 62 or 63 that he did. They have a knockout that has the ramps for the twist in oil fill/breathers. Marked Pontiac inside, no year listed. So yeah, they are traditional for any period car for after 62 anyway.
Incidently, M/T had square breathers that were the right size to bolt on the flat on the cover. They had a slit about a quarter inch wide that went to the bottom side of the cover. The air had to tavel a z pattern to p*** through fairly effectively wringing out the oil. They still got oily on the outside, but not near as bad a the Offenhauser ones did

here's a 1964 scan. these are not the earliest. I've seen them with no M/T at all. only fins. it said "Mickey Thompson 327" on the inside only. the ones I saw were chromed at one time and deteriorated, so I did not buy them.

could be they didn't make all styles for all engines. the company started in 62 if I remember right. that's the early 60's where i come from.:D

If they don't have any holes in them (pvc, breather, oil filler),I think they look old enough to be traditional. I bought a set for my SBC but haven't put them on yet. For now, I'm running painted Chevrolet script covers w/no holes.
