I don't know if it was an obstruction issue or an issue with the hot air from the trans cooler going into the radiator. Time will tell. Once again. Thank You.
Ok...last test, if I do another I'll die of heat stroke...106 today and the car ran at 190 on the freeway and 180 around town. The ****** got to 210 city driving but cooled down to 170 on the freeway. 700R4 with overdrive and a lock out converter. I'm happy to say I think the big 454 is gonna run cool from here on out. Now I'm gonna pop an ice cold beer and chill out with some BBQ. Once again, Thank You everyone for your input.
I wonder what "Design Set Point" you might be referring to when the car is a 1958 Cadillac with a 454 Chevrolet motor? many 454 Chevy trucks are designed to run at 200° plus, I think he is fine. And from what he said it Never went above 200
I'd have to do some research to be sure, but the figures you quote for trans temps sound too high to me. I suggest you concern yourself more with that than worrying about 200* coolant temp.
I agree. The ****** temps were alot lower, around 160-170 when it was on the front of the radiator. How hot is too hot for the 454?
Ok. I put the trans cooler back onto the radiator and those are exact numbers. Thank you Sir. I'm also ordering a trans cooler with a small fan and temp switch.
