Picked some chrome shocks at a swap last fall. They have 3" of travel. Is that enough for the front of my A? If so, with the car sitting at rest should I mount them compressed 1" for when I go through a dip and the suspension unloads so the shock doesn't extend all the way? Also I wanted to use F-1 shock mounts but I would have to cut them down so they are about 1" tall, Is there another traditional option?
I have a pair just like that, only mine look a little longer, and they are too short for my car. If ya want, send me a pm, we'll check measurements, and maybe swap....Fido
I think those will be fine... unless you're Bo Duke. Provided they're rated for your car. Harley Davidson snowmobiles used chrome shocks alot like that. When you mount 'em, set them up so they have more travel on the way down and you should be good. Then, just remember... some of those front wheel landings can do some damage. JOE
Best thing to do is to establish ride height. Remove all but the main leaf and re***emble WITH the shockers. Let the suspension bottom out, and make damn sure the shocks don't bottom first. Allow about 1/2" for 'squeeze', and put your upper mounts in. The angle of the shocks has a great effect on travel, more angle = less travel (also less effective), so you CAN angle them more to gain suspension travel. Cosmo
