I agree with that tommy....I am old, older than dirt and while I enjoy a/c and the leg room in a '40 Ford coupe there is nothing finer than hopping in a roadster and let the wind run thru my hair...ok lack of hair. Sunburn...
windburn...low flying bugs, open pipes...bias ply tires...yeah now thats a
hot rod..it is what keeps some of us old greasers young.
how do I know...cause Johnny Angel Said So

Everyone here is giving examples of young people driving them, I think he is talking in general... Like Camaro drivers being trailer park. Although most Camaro drivers are not, the associated image is that they are.

Personally I think old man when I think roadster. There are tons of really great roadsters being driven by young guys, however the majority of roadsters I have seen are driven by old guys. I say yes.
you guys can show me 900 photos of young Hambers in cool roadsters, but it won't wash away the thousands of memories I have of old white men in roadsters.

    Is that what you mean?

And tomorrow's stupid question post will be "Chrome or painted wheels...which are better?"

  10. HEY! Here's a vintage phrase: "Junior Flip". Jonny, that was a Junior Flip question.

Benzene 440, the fact that you said "(potrzebie)" makes you an old fart, albeit a cool one.

I'm an old man, and I have a roadster. But _because_ I'm an old man, I don't drive it very often or very far.

I hope so. I got my roadster when I was 30, and drove the piss out of it for over 23 years. As soon as we get the new motor, trans, and brakes squared away, I plan to drive the piss out of it for another 20 or so years. After that, I figure the old girl has about three more rebuilds in her......

Hope I get to stick around for a few of them.....

Yes. I'm 58, put about 6,000 miles on my 27 last year. Got another 27 body sitting in the yard, buying another one just because it is a much better body than the other 2 and I got a 30 roadster that was an old 50s rod that is waiting it's turn. We are not going to talk about the touring car stuff I have that has modifed material written all over it.

I've been a roadster freak since I was 12. But, alas, gotta get my coupe going because of the old skin cancer thing, my ole lady says she won't ride with me if I gotta get a plastic nose! yeah, its gonna have air.

Ok. I have kids older than a lot of you guys on here and I just got my roadster on the road on this spring. I love it and so does granny. So it roadsters are for old guys so be it because I'm an old guy. I'll come out of the closet on more issue too...I run radial tires. I feel so much better now.

  16. Hey Phil,

    Heck yeah.

Furthermore Potrzebie is Polish and I asked a Polish friend how he pronounces it. "por-sheb-nee"

I honestly don't think any kind of traditional rod is an "old man car", even when I see an older fella drivin' one. I think old man car, I think high dollar street rod with some kinda huge ass leather seats, AC, power everything, with the standard issue ZZ4/700r4, more or less their old man Buick without the old man Buick outer skin. An older fella that drives a traditional rod obviously isn't worried about comfort or mileage, they still just want a cool-ass ride that goes like stink, which is never an "old man" thing to want.

If I could afford a roadster I woulda got one in a heartbeat (my fiance woulda shot me if I passed up a open top, hell, she said that I CAN'T close the top of my Sedan), but they're too rich for my blood and I really like Sedans, it was what I wanted.

I can't believe no one ripped this guy a new asshole?

Most likely a glass body, radial tires, top, PAINT!?!?! - I'll bet that thing has upholstery to !!! The Horror!!!

I am 27 - I put my first '32 roadster(Wescott) on the road in '02 - I drove that car to Louisville from FL 3 years straight, and put 20k miles on it before I sold it. What is wrong with my old car? or hiboyroadsterboy's car? Not a damn billet thing on my old car. I built the chassis, the engine, did all the body work and paint, and all the interior except covering the seat.

I guess the ididit column kills the whole deal. I am going to track down the buyer in AZ, give him his money back and take the piece of shit directly to the landfill.

  20. Yep, I'm an old guy. I drive a roadster. Hell, I do have radial tires and an I Did It steering column. Cause my old ass likes the smooth radial tire ride. And because I can afford the I Did It column. Hey, I paid my dues, driving dodge minivans full of snot nosed kids (mine and others) around in it. I built my share of rods with bump-assed bias ply tires and skinny "stick your arm out the window" steering columns with no signal lights. So Bite Me!!!

    Tommy,
There's the KEY. You're only an "OLD" man if your roadster is NOT driven. And by "driven" I don't mean you drive sedately down the street to the next car show or to the old man car club meeting. "Driven" is like your picture above demonstrates, i.e. used to have FUN. You are only as young as you think. Go for it!!!

oh well roadsters are for all ages.

  27. Maybe if it's all stock and so clean you could eat off it.

  28. Hey, Benzine, so that's how you pronounce it!! Thanks! I've been say the furshluginer word all wrong.

BTW, YES, roadsters are for old men. You young guys please send them to me before your contemporaries make fun of you. Especially a shiny one, I'll apply some of that well used "patina" that is all the rage. Since my garage is pretty full I can also offer Phil's special "rust conditioning" for that all important Ratrodrockabillyific image. Right side lowering by Orcabetty available for a nonimal fee.

    Yeah right!

I'm a sissy when compared to your roadster operating hours. I did want to ask you if you washed it before you sold it? That mud made my car famous.
