I bought a set of wheels that came off of a ford spindle but the ID is larger than my old wheel bearing ID.
49 chevy spindle wheels maybe ? Adapters for the Ford spindles?? I have a set that the bearing ID is correct for ford spindles but the outer bearing will not go in far enough with out spacing the inner bearing out some and a spacer on the outer bearing because I ran out of threads . I assumed there for a Angelia . The bearings bore is correct however. Those bearings look really big on the ID even for a chevy spindles.
I'm wondering why your photo makes me want to believe that i am looking at sealed bearings rather than cup and cone wheel bearings. First step might be to get the numbers off the bearings that came with the wheels and hunt down Anglea wheelbearing numbers and sizes. I'm thinking that Drumyn29 has it correct. Someone turned down a pair of roundback spindles to Anglea dimensions and that the wheels are designed for Anglea spindles. I hunted down 54 Chev wheel bearings in case the measurements might match. No telling what the original application was spindle wise was when the wheels left the factory. That will give you measurements to compare to. I couldn't find Anglea WB measurements.
They're arent numbers that I can find on the bearings and my gut is telling me they are Anglia. I guess I will search out a new set of spindles, are 1928-1948 spindles the same size?
No. You would want either a 37-41 or a 42-48. The earlier ones used the same bearing but the snout length is different and the seal surface is different.
You might want to check if your wheels will fit the Ford bearing first. Could be they had Anglia wheels and needed to fit them on a Ford size axle so they whittled down the Ford spindles.
Original Anglia spindle bearing diameters are 25mm and 5/8" ..... yes a mixture of metric and imperial sizes. Most all aftermarket dragster/altered spindles and wheels are based on Anglia dimensions.
