Two old b/w photographs taken in Britain in the mid 1950s. The partial photo seems to be a 1948 Buick Roadmaster Sedan [note the rear quarter-light], as shown in the modern photo. The fuzzy distance shot is not quite the same car; even perhaps not a Buick? In mid-Fifties Britain, it would have been quite rare for two such similar American cars to appear at the same stock car track, but I don't believe they are the same car. I have always been impressed by the width of knowledge (and patience) shown by H.A.M.B members; can you help with this one?
I'd say your correct on the side view being a Buick, but the lower front picture looks more like a '47-48 Desoto.
The probable photo is just that. As far as I know the Roadmaster’s longer wheelbase was all from the cowl forward.
Big thanks to the experts --- back then British stock car guys loved 'Yank' cars --- big and powerful and different. Secret -- many pulled out the V8 for their racer, and installed a Perkins diesel engine, and used the big car to tow, economically. Cheers!
