I have ALLWAYS leaned toward the traditional styles,,,long before it was fashionable. With that said I build my cars and trucks to suite my taste and mine alone. If you like it thats cool with me,,,if you don't I don't care! I have run into a few guys that think they invented hot rods,,,a limited amount of people fall into that catagory and still fewer are here on the hamb,,, I say live and let live,,,, The guy that built a car several years ago,,say 20 years or so is not going to be to the standards of most HAMBERS,,,,but if he likes it thats ok by me. We all have our likes and dislikes and as a rule I don't voice my disapproval in front of the people or their ride. HRP
Too bad they don't make 'em in 6 volt Sorry, I couldn't resist... Every group has its rules and share of snobbery, what's new? The Corvette bunch, Vintage Cars, Antique Airplanes, ect... They, them, those people, all want a certain kind/type of vehicle in their shows. At least they were being up front about it... Here's my "Show" problems... My cars are too new/old, too stock, or not stock enough... My plane is not a "Warbird" but is a super clean, low time '59 low prod # Cessna 150 and I have to park it in the dirt at the airshow... My Harley was a bone stock, low mile '71 FLH but not cool enough for the Sunday Fair Weather Leather Warriors... So what, why take it personally? It's all just like High School, you can either join the clic, enjoy from the sidelines, or fly solo! Now me, I'm snobbish about my Coonhound
Hey, Rope. I have a coonhound, too. She's a drama queen and a diva, a sweet southern belle with beautiful eyes. Learned to fly in a 150. For a tricycle gear craft, it demands some attention to the rudder. Like the coonhound, it's demanding, friendly, lithe, pretty, and widely underappreciated.
I sometimes wonder what goes on inside Mike's head........ Then I wonder why I find it so entertaining......
I gotta say something here. Have been hearing this auto discrimination topic being tossed around for quite a while. It's not a new thing. I own a shop in southern California and we work on all types of cars. Everything from hot rods, rat rads, customs, bombs, OG cars, sports cars, muscle cars you name it. I have my own personal preferences, but far be it from me to try and push these off on some one else. I appreciate what people do to their rides no matter what type of car it is. Example, I have one customer that has a 54 MG TF that has a 215" GM aluminum Olds V8 and T10 with narrowed 8" Ford. Car is lowered with american torque thrust II wheels. It was built in the mid 1960's. It's cool looking, drives great and goes like to hell! What are you going to call this one? I call it a hot rod. Having grown up with cars in the 50's and 60's it sort of bugs me at times to hear guys raging on cars because they are not traditional or period correct. Expecially when they have no car and weren't born untill the 70's or 80's. Mostly I don't say much, just listen and think to myself what a dumb ass! Bottom line I don't really care what it is or what it is supposed to be, so long as it is well built, looks good and drives well. Each of us does what we can with what we have and what we personally like, don't understand those guys that build cars for themselves that are trying to please or impress others. Do your own thing, enjoy it and F__k all the rest! Enough said!
Thats why at car shows, I park and walk away. I don't care what others thinks. I like my ride and that's all that's important to me.
ya'know it's pretty fuckin lame that a guy can drive an all steel 32 that his dad built and some clown talks shit because of the wheels. ever notice how the threads that don't require any technical know-how get the most responses?
Yes there is a certain amount of traditional rod snobbery. "My traditional rod is more traditional than your traditional rod." I love the late fourties and early fifties style cars but I have little patience with fragile, and expensive early Ford trannys and rear axles. I'll use a Flathead but with a later trans and axle. I don't have a problem with a change that doesn't affect the over-all early style. I'd like to build an era correct early rod except it won't have a 39 gearbox ever. If you have to crawl on the ground to see the later trans and axle I don't see how that ruins the early look. In fact I'd run an, oh horrors, alternator and an electric fan if needed. If someone has a fit over it screw 'em, I don't care.
We were taling about this sort of thing the other day, could hot rodders (not all) be becoming more fantaical then restorers about what should and shouldnt be on a car. Some days it ceratinly seems that way. Hmmmm whilst I wasnt around then I somehow dont think thats how it started
