History Are you a member of a car club?

Charter member NHRA,can"t be to many left.

 

Joining a club would probably fill a lot of the knowledge gaps I have but then I have to maintain relationships, become available, reciprocate. I like things more than people.

 

Was this a club you were aware of that may have been gone when you started your club?

I'm honored to say I've been a member of the Portsmouth Street Rod Association since it's first meeting on July 3, 1974. The picture above was taken in 1978. Note the club restored gas pump that is represented in our club logo.
We later finished a trailer to carry the pump, banner, banner frame, and sports equipment so we could play volleyball and baseball anywhere we went.

Here's a picture from our 30th reunion picnic. I'm the handsome guy at back left.

 

First picture was taken at our 25th anniversary get together. The three guys kneeling in front were at the first meeting in 1974. I'm the handsome guy kneeling on the right.
There were only four guys at the first meeting but a fifth guy showed up late driving a 40 Ford coupe and we then felt the meeting was a rousing success! We had a running, driving hot rod at the meeting and it looked pretty good, too. My 33 Chevy was in the garage at that first meeting but it didn't look like it does in the picture above from 1978.
BTW, that club board for dash plaques was a gift to for our club for helping paint the Senior Citizens meeting areas in the old Portsmouth Courthouse in early 1975.

 

Damn, condolences Danny. Especially tough to lose someone in that manner.

 

Been in two clubs over the years. Both were a lot of fun at the time. If I could I would rather have a good bunch of friends that occasionally could run together. No politics, assignments or cliques to deal with. I do miss having the inspiration to get my own car done and hanging with like minds.

Rapid Shifters. Rapid City SD. Club originated in 1953, disbanded in 1965. Last year a few of us contacted some original members and got their blessing to re-start the club. We have 17 current members and a few original members have been hanging around.

 

High school club formed in 1957 in San Diego. Only a couple of us left and we get together at the GNRS in Pomona.

 

Just got talked into joining a club. They asked me if I would go to the upcoming World of Wheels car show so I joined because I hate to find a parking spot.
