I grew up with a kid and his dad's hot rods were all white. That's what he liked. Every car, regardless of make or model.

I have another friend that @guthriesmith knows. All of his cars are shiny black. He may try and start out to go another color and ends up shiny black, every stinking time.

I tend to like the silvers and light blue metallics. The light blues are my favorite. They have a very 60's vibe to them when accented with white.

I'm not a fire engine red guy, I can't do it. Not sure why.....

This is a stupid post, but I am at work and I wish I were at home.

In the 50 n early 60s,some very new colors were coming out, around the same time I was finishing up my hotrod 28A for high school. The new Metallic's in many colors,Pearl { then a bit latter Pearl in colors} ,an best of all CANDYAPPLE's } All WOW factor, from just nice an shiny. But They all had a lot of extra $ cost too. So end of 1959,High Gloss Black is what I went with, the Gloss Red was about x2 an only lasted 1/2 the time, of High Gloss Black.
With my engine done with high gloss yellow spray can..
I liked it ,an have stayed the same every repaint over the years. Miami high home coming prade.jpg

Currently I have a white car, a blue car, a champagne car, a green car, a red car, and two white/red pickups....green is my favorite color, in my head if I picture what I'd paint them all, it'd be some form of green. Red is one of my least. No idea how I keep winding up with red vehicles.

Sounds like you guys are more diverse than me. I am a simpleton.....

  9. Nothing but blues and teal in the garage.

33 pickup is teal (can be blue or green depending on what the camera and light)

    55 Chevy is blue/white

    Taboo is blue

    61 Impala is blue

O/T 68 C10,68 Camaro and my daily 17 Camaro are all blue as well.

I have owned other colored cars but they were already painted and good deals. If I’m buying paint or a brand spanking new car where I have choice of color, I’m going with blue pretty much every time. Darker greens would be the next choice.

For daily driving of uninteresting vehicles, I like silver and gold since they're great at hiding dirt and I rarely wash anything.

For classics, I think it's up to the car. That's not to say it has a spirit or something, but I feel like the appearance of each car has its own unique attitude that goes with it. I could never say there's one color that could work well for all of them. I like muscle cars dark and mean, 40s/50s cruisers with two-tone (maybe pastels w/ white), sports cars can be red, pickups depend on the era, etc. Much of the time, the factory color feels like the right choice.

  13. I've had 2 that were Tangerine Metallic and loved 'em.
But my bucket-list color, that hasn't happened for me yet, is Burgundy Metallic (AKA Maroon) like the example below.

  18. Gloss Black for me. However the color on my roadster is so unusual and looks different in different lights. Problem can’t match color anymore since company stopped doing auto paint. No luck with PPG. So I see a color hot rod and I want to paint it Black.

I'm partial to red on my 48 but painted it gold the first time around in 1973. The daily driver boxes with wheels are silver and copper and even I loose the silver one in a parking lot.
I've never been hung up on color though I just like certain colors on certain body styles.

  23. The only car I've ever purchased new, ordering exactly what I wanted, turned out to be a mistake from the color (charcoal grey metallic) to options (sun roof instead of A/C, 318 instead of 340, three speed instead of four speed, non-sure grip, radio delete, etc.) Now the color I had picked based on my memory of an old girlfriend's family '57 Dodge Royal Lancer, which was two-tone coral and charcoal grey. I don't know the actual factory color names, but that gives you an idea of the color combination. She was beautiful and so was her family's car. I still think it was the perfect color combination for a mid- to late '50s cruiser. Both Ford and Chevy had similar schemes, but neither were as perfect in my opinion than that Dodge. But one color alone just can't do it. It has to be both, preferably with lots of fins and chrome to set it off.

I lean towards blues but, really, I like almost every color. Green is probably my least favorite, though.

IMG_2837.jpeg Saw this on Low riders, zoot suites thread. Pink really works on this car, I guess I like different colors on different cars. My favorite is candy apple red however it doesn’t work on everything.
