Some folks enjoy the build, others want no or little part of building and just prefer to drive their hot rod. Which are you?

My vote is in. I mostly enjoy the build and then the thrill of the first drive. As far as driving the car, unless I have a destination or plan I feel I'm kinda wasting time. I'm sort of the same way with motorcycles.....I need a purpose or destination.

Now it's your turn to declare where your real passion lies. Perhaps give a little reason for, or explanation of your choice.

I voted towards building but realistically it's a combination of the two.

I'm a bit of both but after they are done I tend to lose interest and start looking for something else. I try to use them as a daily driver when the weather allows but always seem to be looking for something else.

  5. I enjoy the "hunt", then the "build" of a project.
I like a set destination, but mostly just depends on my mood, and/or weather if I'm up for a drive.

I like building and driving my own and still do, but building and and working on my sons circle track car. I have never driven his and may someday but can’t see it at 77.

Driving is fun, and we usually have a destination, even if it's just for ice cream. But building is my passion. I spend a hundred times more time building than I do driving.

Now, maintaining is something I hate. Once it's done, I don't like taking it apart to fix things, or even cleaning them. I've got a brake upgrade project I was going to do this winter, and it still isn't done. Been spending time building other things for other cars.

    Builder for sure!
I love problem solving. Hate to do the same thing twice much less over and over.

I'm the first vote for driver. I don't mind building, but I'd much rather be driving the wheels off of one than putting it together. Since I don't have Jay Leno's money I'll just have to continue hacking my way through though.

  10. People always think I enjoy building but really I like driving old cars. Being broke makes me a builder out of necessity.

I'm an 80% kind of guy. I build to 80%, drive the shit outa it till it's around 60%, then just fix whatever breaks from that point. I don't need a destination to drive it. I will use it every day for a month, then it sits for a while till I use it hard again. Mechanically, it's 100% dependable, but it wont ever be washed or polished. My goal is to put as many miles on it as I can.

Poll is broken, it doesn't let you pick both

  13. It changed with my age. When I was younger, I really liked problem solving and making/modifying stuff. As I've gotten older (73) I drive, and do maintenance as needed (begrudgingly). I use mine as a daily driver whenever I can. I'm also happier to keep a car a long time than I used to be. My current toy I've had for 23 years, and it 'fits' just right.

I build and drive them and have only ever bought two (2) finished cars in my time. My current finished car will be listed soon so I can finish my current long term project.;)

Should add both to the poll. I enjoy building as well as driving them. I take pride in what I build and love to get it out and show it and my work off.

  17. Builder for sure. After the 200 mile test drive I'm ready to move on to the next build. Creating not maintaining is my mantra.

I absolutely love building them more than driving them. With that said, I do enjoy road trips with a destination. 8-10 hours is ok with me. Driving around locally just to kill time doesn't do hardly anything for me.

Building keeps me physically active and mentally sharp. I love solving problems and improving my skills. I can't imagine what I would do if I didn't build my cars, especially since I retired.

I've found the comments quite interesting. I do understand the idea that a "both" option would be nice and would probably be the choice of many, but even a 50.1/49.9 slant either direction is a preference.

FWIW.....my T roadster and A coupe are both finished to the point of running, driving, licensed and insured, but certainly both could use some refining. I find it hard though to pull myself away from my current project.

Im more of a builder but I enjoy driving them also, but for the last year I’m just the owner. Getting old can suck at times.

Driver, I have covered the nation many times. Every vehicle I get a hold of gets modified one way or other.
Building is a life long dream that I committed to the week I quit high school. Collected cars trucks, sold cars trucks. Collected shop equipment (wives) and tools. Resigned myself to believing that retirement would be my time.
Before I could park the truck health went to hell.
Ever hopeful, still working on rehabilitating my retched body. Going from 180 lbs, 6 ft one, to 123 lbs, 5 ft eight. Three build projects waiting

Building if I don't have to. Driving way more fun than fixing stuff.

I do like the build, bringing ideas to life, finding the right part especially at a bargain, learning new skills and finally getting to the opportunity to use old ones, the puzzle of combining parts to make something work. It gets more and more frustrating when your work space is limited to a small shed and what ever you can do in a trap tent.
Once I get it drivable it's going to be something that I finish as I go

  26. I enjoy both, but lean more toward driving. The main reason I have built cars was so I could drive them a lot. I have never been able to pay someone else to build something and likely wouldn’t even if I could. But, driving them is still my passion.

  27. I get a lot of satisfaction from driving the cars I have built. So both I guess....

Constant builder and prolific traveler which meant always having a late model, comfortable, reliable cruiser also, that suited the better half. There has never been a time that I didn't have at least one project underway. Less than half a dozen could be considered HAMB abiding. My projects covered cars, trucks, buses, boats, motorhomes and there were always motorcycles in the mix. Really did want to vote both.

I'm a builder and a driver. I like the hassle and problem solving on a build.
I'll even butt in on someone else's build until they tell me to shut the fuck up and go mow my lawn. But not with out grabbing one their sodas on the way out...

  30. Both, Chevy will remain mostly finished. It's the one I love to drive. So many years I had no running car to take to shows or cruise in. Building the last non running car in my shop now, It's my project to have something to work on. Son is grown, helping him put together a fresh BBC roller engine. He's seen me working on stuff all his life. That probably factored into his ''mostly driver'' status. That's fine, I'll hang in the shop and keep 'em all running.
