    I get my balls busted regularly about the **** I carry in my trunk at all times. I drive old cars with old parts and hard to find parts so I must say it is a great piece of mind knowing that I can take care of myself and others to keep us out of harms way or make trips alot less stressful.

    So what do you carry when you take your car or truck out?

    Myself, I carry all my hand tools, electrical wire, belts and hoses, all different fluids, plugs, wires and rotor, points and condenser, regulator, generator, water pump, hub puller, jumper cables, spare tire, jack, 5 gallons of gas and tons of miscellaneous ****.

    All together this stuff probably weighs in close to 500 lbs. I know its heavy but its well worth knowing that in most situations I should be able to get rolling by myself.

    Lets hear what you carry!!

    I don't have anything hardly...I got stuck on the side of the road today, and had to have someone bring me a 4-way so I could get home! I had a socket the right size in the car, but the 1/2" socket wouldn't fit the 3/8" drive ratchet I had!

  3. I must have 8 different lugwrenches, tools, sometimes I'm even carrying a generator and electric tools. There was a night that would have been handy about 4 years ago. Bailing wire, too, that's the most important thing of all.

    couple months back I took the Volvo to Auburn from the south bay area. then I went down 49 to Murphys. as I approached my destination my CD player starting skipping and playing weird. I was losing power I figure I had no alternator and now the battery is dieing.

    get to my brothers and you got to get out a ****ing metal detector to find any tools. I'm not kidding. I had nothing. and all I needed to do is put one wire back on the alternator. took me like 2 hours using a rock and a pointy stick.

    now I got sockets and wrenches extensions screwdrivers AMERICAN VICE GRIPS hammer tape wire digital multimeter. all in one handy box. and as I found out today, my spare even has air in it.

    So far, I have managed to carry everything except what I've needed. There is not much room in a pickup cab to load a bunch of extra stuff. Gene

    Depends on where I'm going. If its a long trip, I try to bring sockets and wrenches (****s to find out the socket is too shallow to get around the nut), pliers, channel locks, wire, wire cutters, electrical tape, coolant, oil, extra belt and hose, flashlight(most important tool), and a manual.

    The trunk is pretty small in a channeled car ... but I always carry the bare essentials:

    * a scissor type jack
    * a tool bag [with a set of socket wrenches, combo wrenches, Allen wrenches, various screw drivers, (American made) VICE-GRIP pliers, CHAN-NEL-LOCK pliers, a small hammer, a pair of ****s (diagonal wire cutters ... not lesbians), etc.]
    * a spare starter for the HEMI
    * fan belt
    * a can of brake fluid
    * a gallon of anti-freeze/water.
    * a bottle of Rain-X!
    * a can Octane Boost / Lead subs***ute
    * a flashlight

    No room for a spare tire ... so I would be screwed if I got a flat.

    Back in 1980, we drove the coupe from California to Minnesota ... and then onto the NSRA Nats in Memphis ... and back home again:

    Back home ... Can't believe we fit all that stuff in the trunk of a channeled 5-window!

    HAHAHAAAAAAA!! now that is funny!! id like to see that. ----- ive done some weird **** on the road or in a bind but never had a pointy stick & a rock workin for me!

    ------------------ if im going a long ways ill grab some tools & or parts. but nothing lately.
    otherwise i have put together a permanent set up out of old tiawan or grocery store tools but it seems the vehicle gets stored for winter & i end up breaking into the tools in the storage area (no other tools there) & they never get put back as the ratchet ends up in one car needing a battery, a wrench is left under the hood of another car as i needed the carberator off it etc.....................

  10. Small toolbox with sockets, allens and open ends, one for every bolt size on my rod. I don't need/use them that much but they have made me very popular at times. Also screwdrivers, Torx drivers, flashlight, tape measure, motor oil. transmission fluid, a set of bearings, races, and seal for the front end, bucket with a bottle of car wash and a roll of paper towels, Windex spray, tire dressing, beach blanket, baby oil, condoms, handy wipes, etc, etc.

    Most of what I carry fits in a milk-crate.
    2 gallons Anti-Freeze,2 quarts of oil,2 quarts of Trans fluid and an ammo box with some basic hand tools(Pliers,vice grips,reg and phillips screwdrivers commonly used sockets,crescent wrench,wire cutters,electrical tape and teflon tape).
    I'll have to take a pic of a list I have. It's ***led "Basic tools and supplies for the Automobilist.

    Toolswise I carry a socket set and a small toolbox with spanners and screwdrivers, crimp tool, some crimps, a bit of wire, spare condensor. Being as I mainly use my car daily (and from past experience) I've had to face the fact that certain things are unreliable so the 6V and dynamo had to go in favour of an alternator. The recovery card has come in handy though, in case I break something serious.

    All I carry is enough to limp to a 24 hour wal mart, unless you need a hard part, $30 worth of tools & supplies ought to rig something useable together.

    ******knuckles, FIVE gallons of gas??? OK one or two I understand, enough to get ya 20 miles down the road to a station if the gauge doesn't work or you're chronically absent minded. Maybe NC is more post-apocalyptic than I remember......otherwise, leave those Jerry cans to guys crossing the sahara! :)

    Rule of thumb a**** my car guy circle, normal load should fit in a milk crate. Road trip tool load should be 2-3 milk crates (or similar size toolboxes).

    Just about everything mentioned above including a donut size spare and a floor jack except the gas can. On almost every trip the floor jack is whipped out for someone else. I also carry a fire extinguisher.

    Riding old american motorcycles has taught me some decent road side manners.For the guys i ride with more so than myself.When i drive the coupe i steal the tool roll from my flh witch has ***orted allen key sets a 1/4 inch socket set to 9/16 and hardware of different lenghts and sizes.One thing i would suggest is some light sticks,the green or blue ones you snap and glow for a few hours.I was riding with someone on a dark nite with a area of highway that was not lit.When he got stuck i drove past him 3-4 times without seeing him on the side of the road.Lay a few out before yourself and it gives the other guy a chance to see you.A flash lite is ok but you need something to fix yourself in the dark also_Oh yea a tire plug kit also.

    I cary a few phillpis and flat screwdrivers, adj. wrench, pliers, tape, wire, jack, lugwrench, piece of rope. Also an extra points set, cond. and coil. My dist came loose one time and I had to use a rock and a stick to get it back in time to get home. the rock to tap it backward and the stick to pry it forward. it worked and I still keep the rock and stick in the car.
    My dad had a ford truck that sometimes the choke would stick shut and flood out, he picked up a large gravel (that wouldn't fall down the carb.) and jamed it open so it would start he kept the gravel and used it numerous times.

    With saddle bags on a motorcycle, they say they'll hold everything you need, but not everything you want. It's hard to apply said rule when you're putting together your own "Save your own *** kit" and you have a trunk. :D
