I carry way too much also......I have needed it a few times. But I've needed it for my buddies even more. And they love me for it. I'm actually gonna put a tool cubby into the bed of my '37 Ford trk. It will fit flush down in there, and I'll still be able to haul a little bit on top. I have found the most important thing on the road so far has been duct tape..........go figure.

My 34 has no trunk.:( So everything goes into the mullins or if no mullins, just my AAA card, a flare and a spare cell phone battery.

The 57 has a huge trunk and I carry some tools, spare electric fuel pump, flares, wire, oil, and all of the other usual **** that I might need in an emergency. No spare tire, though.:D

The PPK and silencer are always under the seat in case I need to permanently correct the improper behavior of a rodent.

For trips, I carry a fairly complete set of hand tools, waterpump, generator, distributor, fuel pump, gallon of antifreeze, jack stands, small floor jack, timing light, 20' of electrical wire, small roll of tie wire, flares, etc. Having a '55 Buick allows me the luxury of being able to have a parts department in your trunk.

Besides, I've found that if you have it with you, you'll usually never need it !!

  7. Short trips=AAA card (so I can fix my car in the comfort of my shop)

Long trips=cheapie tool set, battery booster box with built in tire pump, spare tire, small floor jack, star wrench, something clean to lay on, hand wipes/rags, oil/ATF, tiestraps, bungie cords, and an ice chest full of beer to drink while waiting for help if none of that ******** mentioned above gets me going again

Having a truck there isn't much storeage room unless I would clutter up the bed wheich I don't like to do:

the spare tire is under the bed

the jack and tire wrench behind the seat next to the gas tank.

a gallon of coolant, and extra plug wires on the oposite side next to the gas tank, in the tool tray I keep the other extra fluids as well as extra points, an extra coil and some wrenches and pliers. In the glove box I have screwdrivers, electrical tape, extra light bulbs, hand cleaner and a few other small items.

The main thing i have is my cell phone and AAA card. the truck has been pretty reliable over the last few years. I had to use the AAA card to get a tow home after blowing up the ****** but other than that it always gets me home.

  9. same as everyone else , a shovel and a flashlight!

  10. A word of advice here. If you're running bullet lugnuts, keep a DEEP socket and appropriate ratchet/breaker bar/xtension in the car, as a "star" wrench ain't deep enough

I carry as much as possible. I just completed a 3,000 mile trip and use many things.
I could of used a tap and die set and did not have on with me.

When I first put the Es*** on the road this spring I carried a box full of goodies...oil/antifreeze/belts/extra wire/fuel filters/etc, plus a full box of tools.
Now that I've put a few thousand miles on it, I just carry a cell phone and AAA card. Most of our trips are within a few hours of home so I don't feel I need anything else. Longer trips I'll probably pack a bunch of extras, though.

a**** all those things mentioned, i also have a tire plug kit. make sure the tube of adhesive is still soft and gooey.
and for those who carry a spare, remember to bring along the correct style of lugnuts if your spare wheel is different from the ones you run on your car. it's not safe to run a space saver held on with shouldered lugnuts meant for a mag wheel.
    happy motoring

I am normally with a couple guys who carry enough stuff to maintain a small race team so I just bum off them. Otherwise a simple kit, tape (electrical and duct), wire, piers, screwdrivers and a cescent wrench. Cell phone with the numbers of friends who have trailers or keys to mine.

  17. Same here. I've got everything I need in my trunk to take my Dodge apart and put it back together again. Jack, jack stands, all my tools. Everything. Haha. Well except my welder. It really came in handy when I had to change a fuel pump in a Taco Bell parking lot.

A "$29.95" 1-1/2 ton floor jack, a good 4-way, a canvas tool bag with my "leftover" tools. You know the ones, the ones you don't really like all that well, the odds and ends from sets that the more common pieces either got lost, broken or worn out and their discount store replacements. Oddball tools I picked up along the road, at yard sales, flea markets or found in cars I was working on plus a Qt. of oil, electrical tape, zip ties and last but not least J-B Weld.

I carry enough tools and parts to service nearly any common thing that goes wrong on a ***mins turbo diesel like change injector pump, lift pump, fuel filters, service the brakes, change tires. Jack and jack stands 10 gal diesel with anti gel.

I also have all weather clothes and nice walking shoes. Don't ask why. haha:mad: Twice at -20 and once in sleet.

A few months ago I asked my 18 yr old son who just got his license if he knew how to change a tire, "Nahh the drivers ed guy said just call AAA". Yeah ok I says, "you got a AAA card??"

    "What's that???" was the reply.

His mom just called and said it cost him $150 for the tow pluss the tire......he has a perfectly good spare and jack for the car that really works......:(

I carry the usual toolbox with most any hand tool i could need. there is also an ***ortment of nuts, bolts, screws, etc., a tow strap, jumper cables, a jack and lug wrench, some wood blocks (to hold car or steady the jack on soft ground). Also some electrical wire and wiring supplies and crimper. Fix a flat and some coolant seems to cover most any situation I could find myself in. Never had to walk home, but did have to use the tow strap once....:D Oh yeah, gloves, flashlight, hand cleaner and a pair of those disposable "paper" coveralls.
