Hey guys this is my first post since coming back. Just for fun I thought maybe I’d bring up something I’d like to know more about. I really dig the concept and style of the vintage Argentinian road race cars. Fangio came from these ranks. Anyhow I love the gritty purposeful look of these old racers. If any of y’all have any interest in this feel free to throw in.
Have any of you done any vintage car road rallying? I think an American Coupe from the 30’s or 40’s set up like this would be bitchin’ out in the wild. I had a ‘37 Ford that I wanted to turn into one of these but I had some problems and had to sell. Darn it!
Somehow, those cars speak to me. I especially like the brightly colored paint schemes and the fact that some still are using names for their racecars. Wish we still did.
I’m not really a big fan of parking lot car shows. I like driving them a lot more. These cars beg to be driven, even on gravel roads or in the wintertime.
My dream. Granted a nearly impossible dream for me but a dream of mine nonetheless. I’d like to do it in an Argentinian style Ford Coupe.
I've shared some South American racers over the years and we have a few members who have shared these as well...they drove them real hard and many paid with their lives...not uncommon in motorsports I know... Hamber @GraeffSS shared some current Racers as the Sport is still alive and well...NA auto featured very prominently down there... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...genized-hotrods.1002926/page-61#post-12520931 Credit to Photographer, Owner
@IroquoisEngineering If I recall correctly, that red ‘39 Chevy coupe at the beginning of your first post is either Fangio’s car or, perhaps, a replica of it. I have not sought a lot of information on these racers, but over the years have come across articles on them and very much enjoy learning about the sport and history of Argentine Rally cars. Thanks for starting this thread and I hope more contributions will be forthcoming by you and fellow HAMB members. Ray
Wow thanks for the replies. This is a fascinating subject to me. The chopped Chevy coupe above has just helped me make my mind up on what I’m gonna do with a ‘46 Ford body shell and chassis I have. The body is a mess and the chop was never finished just butchered and left to rot. There’s a chance I could make a streetable version of one of these with the junk I have laying around. Keep em coming.
