Another yard, on Maumelle Boulevard in Maumelle, AR. Sonny's. Been there for over 50 years. Across the street from a brand new Wal-Mart. He is in Pulaski County, between the city of Maumelle and the city of North Little Rock and is grandfathered in, so he will be there til he decides to quit.
I havent been by to see Ole Buddy since he reopened after the robbery. I plan to soon though. Danny is a great guy. He has given me just as much stuff as I have bought from him.i figured that it was only a matter of time before the epa or some other group decided to pick on him, his place has gotten huge. That 59 is a pink flat top sedan. If you turn onto 26 going to i30 take the first street to the right, the car is sitting next to a fence row behind a house. Been there 20 years that I know of. The guy says it belongs to his cousin that lives in Memphis. There is or was a small stash of stuff sitting in Curtis also, but last time I was thru there it looked like they had been cleaning up alot of it. I havent seen your 66 but I will look for it next time Im up that way!
Yup,I know the Caddy! If it's the same people in Curtis I'm thinking of you couldn't buy the dust of any of it. There is a TON of old stuff out in a field off of 67,and I think the same family owns it. If you turn off the old Gurdon Highway by the old Herron's store you can see all the stuff if it's still there. I haven't been down that road in several years though.
allenk, alot of the stuff around the old store in curtis(junction) is gone. as well as the vw's on the right toward gurdon and the 40's and 50's stuff. down the road where the iron bridge is. most of the stuff in the field behind the trees is still there. closer to gurdon at the 53 iturn off there is some junk left but those yards(one on either side of the road) are all but abandoned and cleaned up. and i havent been out there in years but there used to be a bunch of 50's stuff on the right side of the road where the gurdon skating rink used to be.
Tomorrow is the big trip! If we can see all the cars under the snow, we will be in good shape. Thanks again for all your help!
Many years ago I use to scout Arkansas for cars and at the time located close to a 1000. I found one yard in Paris Arkansas (Home ot the TRW Plant) and the owner's name was Don Heathcock. I bought over 25 cars from him (Ford Galaxies and Falcon Convertables) He had about 40 acres of cars from 30's to 68 and A barn behind the house full of 20-30-40- grills and assorted stuff and thousands of hubcaps. His address was 3158 East Neighbors and was like 2 city blocks off the main street. Dont know if he is still alive but it may be worth the drive to go look.
The yard @ the 53 and 67 Jct. belonged to Lum Griffin many years ago,and the body shop across the road used to belong to Randy Weems. He used to have a bunch of stuff, but I don't know what he has now. His father-in-law Huey Hasley painted my C10,and used to live right of Hwy 26 between 67 and I-30. He used to have several Tri-Fives out back when he lived there. I haven't been down Sticky Road by the skating rink in a LONG time either, and it was dark the last time too. Lum Griffin was a character! He used to move houses also! He had an old Army wrecker he called "The G.I." I remember him moving my parent's old house when they built a new one in '77. That house is the one below the hill at Brosh's that has been converted into an office. All those lower buildings are on what used to be my grandparent's garden, and the white house to the east of the main warehouse was my grandparent's. Gene's in Richwoods used to be pretty decent, but he closed up also. I wanted that '64-66 wrecker really badly!
I am again searching for Junk Yards. We were cut short on our Arkansas trip due to heavy snow in 2010. We are expanding our search to Kansas and Oklahoma. I found this on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgWYED8rumc. It looks like a great junk yard, but I am pretty sure it is not in Leavenworth, KS. I am thinking it is near the Oklahoma and Kansas border. Any ideas? Also, please inform of other great yards in either of the two states. Thanks!
The plates are mostly Oklahoma, but there are a few Kansas. It has to be a huge yard to have that many Pontiac's and Buick"s. Someone help us find it! A person in the comments section of the video said it was Billions and Trillions in Tulsa. Could be.....
