A guy had a 1942 (very symilar to the 1946 version) 1 1/2 ton Chevy Panel w/dool wheels on the back in the late 1960's. It was up in a lil' town in the Santa Cruz Mountains called Skylonda. It was in un-restored but good running condition, so it had real character. It was red and had Castro Valley in white letters on the sides. Was once used by the Castro Valley Fire Dpt. no doubt. It was stock, but the thing was cool! Anyway I would add one of those to any dream old car/truck list I would make. They're rare though because WWII broke out, and they got turned into 4x4's, many used by the signal corps (also very rare).

This is "Not my Entry into the Challenge"… but back in 2005 I did this cartoon of the Military version of those Chevy panel trucks… Thought someone might enjoy it!

  2. Several artists have used computer assistance on their entries. It's valid. I agree with fortypickup, as long as it's original art and not a copy use what's inspiring to you and whatever tools needed to get the job done.

Eye bone---That sketch is a kill.

fortypickup, I'll get something done eventually, I'm working feverishly on a drawing for a fellow HAMBer's gal and time is short.

I guess its par for the course! All the challenges start out slow then speed up toward the end!

    GaryC.

    Have you ever
looked closely at a bottle of cherry pop?
How that great red comes through. That's the color
that I thought would work best on this one.
At first I wasn't too enthused about the subject
of this art challenge, but with a little cutting and trimming
I think you could make a classic rod out of it.
I lowered the lid, discarded the fenders and running boards,
took a few of the vertical bars out of the grill to narrow the profile and
sectioned the body below the belt line, removing the side vents in the hood.
A custom pick-up box replaces the angular stock unit.

I chose the pick-up truck as my base simply because I like
pick-ups from this era. I would drive this one anywhere!

GaryC, you just saved me a lot of time! That's nearly exactly what I had in mind, I'm glad you did it, there's NO WAY I could have done it justice. Your talent amazes me.

  11. Let's not shy away from a little competition now. If the Hot Rod world proves nothing else, it is that there's always room for more ideas. Getting involved is the key to the success of this post so let's keep 'em comin'.
    I'm loving what I'm seeing.

Here's one that's meant to be an unofficial entry. You decide...

  12. Here's an entry I'm posting for fellow HAMBer, ALLEYOOP.

As he describes this PhotoChop image it's got the following mods:
diamond T hood,'39 Ford fenders, '38 Lasalle grille, chop top and
all this is channeled cozily down around the frame.

Ok, here's my shot at a custom. Not sure I really like what I did with the grille but it's different. I took one and made into the panel.
