I have got an idea stuck in my head for a far-off project......concept stage really.....don't ask! How similar is the 41-46 COE upper firewalls to the pickup firewall? More specifically, will a COE upper hood fit reasonably well to the pickup cowl? Far out and far off planning, but if they fit, I can start looking for deals on parts.
I'm fairly certain that the cabs are all the same, so the COE hood should mate up to the top of the pickup cowl just fine. Lots of guys use COE cabs during halfton restos since they often have nicer floors and rockers, being they were up in the air 5 feet for their whole lives. Sometimes the cowl is different since there wasn't a fender mating up to it, but still the COE hood should be an easy swap. Just don't know what you'd do with the front fenders at that point.
For what it's worth, this truck was built by adding the panel truck back end to the COE cowl. It was cut in the center of the windshield post, and across the floor even with the door jam. The two pieces fit together like they were factory made. The COE doors were used, and they matched the panel truck body jams perfectly. This makes me think the top of the cowl has the same shape and dimensions. I have other shots of this truck if you need other views.
Cabs are different, at least according to image searches. It looks as if the differences are below the beltline. Examine the photos and see if you agree...........
The cabs are the same the only thing that is different is the cowlvent on the the side of the cab. That cab was used from 1939-1946 and even used on army trucks during World War 2
the floor is a bit different but for the MOST part, the cabs are the same from 39 to early 47. late 47 was the AD design. i got an eddykation when i owned one....
I'm in the process of reproducing 1941-46 CHEVY COE fenders, hood & grill. If you have 39 - 46 cab you'll be able to make it into a COE. Should be ready for sale in the spring. Any questions email me OZsomelaser@aol
