Got a young man who lives up the street that occasionally pops by to visit. He's a good kid, honor student, but not much money, and no strong male role model in the home. He told me the other day he was painting a helmet and ask if I would paint something on it. I said sure drop it by. He looked kind of perplexed and asked what it would cost. I laughed and said if I didn't charge him he couldn't****** about how it turned out. Anyway, finished it up last night and will give it to him this evening.
there needs to be more people like you in this world. everyone is so money hungry that it hurts gota love the old helmet.....nice work YOung BUck
Unk, Yea, thats kind of in the works. he asked where he could get a striping brush. Of course showing him what I know could take all of ten minutes.
nice job! 10 minutes of showing him how to do it, at least he'd have a good start on solid technique's and be off to a good start you can be his mentor!
Not only is the work really good, but your intent is more than commendable. More people need to take the time that you did. Keep it up. You should be very proud.
You may not realize it yet but you may have inspired the next great automotive artist.Thank you George. Ray
Great job on the helmet G V .....you've got a big heart bro!..."we are measured by deeds, not years!"....your example here of making that young mans desire come true fit's the saying above perfectly!!
GV, good work. I was thinking last night abouthow this hobby wille ver survive. Me and the wife went to the grocery store last night to pick up a few things. I drove the sled as usual and saw a snot nosed little bag boy eyein me. About half way through the lanes he stopped by and asked if we needed anything. In the checkout he is baggin away out 300.00 dollar loot (we only shop about once every three months) and we atrat to talkin. He askes about the car club (I was wearing my jacket) Turns out this kid is 16, dads long gone, grandpa gave him a 52 buick when he died and it is sitting in an apartment parkinglot cause this kid has no clue how to get it to run or even drive a 3sp column. Instead of blowing it off like so many do I gave him my card and tell him I live a few blocks away and on a night off to give me a call and I'd come look at it. Who knows, maybe he will be cool, and if he is willing to sweat equity it I will help him get her going. I have done the same thing to two other guys in the past, one*****ed me over and stole a bunch of***** and the other is one of my best friends. you gotta over to help the younger generation or they will become swarmed by mad bee exhaust tips and aluminum 3 tier wings.
Thanks guys, I figure you can't blame kids for being into rice rockets and billet if thats all they are exposed to. He is now one of the few 12 year olds around here who knows who "Rat Fink" is. If he hangs around me he will definetly be corrupted , I mean educated.
That's awesome man.... There should be more people like you helping out the children... In my neighborhood I am known as "the guy with all the stuff" by all the kids... Funny story, the folks across the alley from us have a 5 year old son. He is always running across the alley to see what I am working on and asks TONS of questions. A couple of years ago, he came over when I was working on the shoebox and was asking about my tattoos (I usually don't wear a shirt when working on the cars in the Texas summer). He said that he wanted to look like me. I didn't know what to say... the only thing that I could think to say was "cool, go tell all of the other kids in the neighborhood that I rule and you must all worship me" (no I didn't say that, but I was thinking it...) Anyhow, he goes home after asking about 100 questions about what I was doing. He comes back about 15 miuntes later, shirtless, holding a black marks alot marker and he has drawn all over his arms, legs, chest and FACE! He then tells me that he now looks like me and how cool he was.... (he had even drawn all over his face and there was a line that went across his forefead, over his closed eyelid, on his lip and ended on his tooth!!!!) His mother came over (his parents are cool) and thought the whole thing was funny (I was freaking out). I told her that I had a box full of temporary tattoos and if I could give them to him. She said yes and he came back the next day to show me the cool temporary tattoos (again all over his body) the best part is that the marks-a-lot was still there for over a week!!!! Remember he was like 3 years old!!!! Had to share... Keep up the good work GV HC
There were a bunch of kids (mostly with no dads) who lived on the same street as my friend (and HAMB'r) JetFuel bought a house on 10 years ago. Over the years, they brought over their bicycles to work on, made go-karts, learned to weld and 3 of them avoided turning into dope smoking TV addicts. It's a*****ty little town (and I like it a lot) without a lot for kids to do, and he's been a great role model. Here's what three of those 12 year old kids (now 20ish) are doing today: Brian's 23. He bought a body 5 months ago, and it'll be at VLV. Matt's '55 Plymouth Savoy. Just got it, swapped out the dead poly-motor and put in a 440. It'll be at VLV. PopTart's '62 ('64?) Bel Aire. It won't be at VLV, but it should be. Not trying to jack this thread, but just showing what you can do with kids. These three didn't go to jail, and stayed in school - something that can't be said for all the kids on that street. See more of them here at my site.
