For what it's worth I worked for a NASA subcontractor after I got out of the Army in 1968 at the "Apollo" site near Las Cruces New Mexico testing the non metallic materials that went into the capsule after the disaster that happened on the launch pad a year or so earlier. We found that many of the materials in the space craft were highly flammable. By the time I left in the spring of 71 we were testing paper, velcro, underwear, etc that did not support combustion. One of the guys I worked with was running an A fuel FED and he was able to liberate enough Nomex fabric for his race car suit. My 46 year old son called and wanted to talk about the current space shot, he'd never exhibited much interest before.
