Cyr and Hopper vs Art Chrisman at the Bakersfield Smokers March Meet in 1960.

    Hello,

Ring side seats for filming back in those early 1960 days was a battlefront. Since there were no elevated seats (bleachers) close to the starting line for this event, one had to scramble toward the chain link fences to get a view of the action. The closer to the starting line, the more crowded it got.

    Bakersfield 1960

If I had a zoom lens, it would not have been a problem, but using a fixed lens on a 16mm movie camera was a true point and shoot. The action had to be somewhat close for the best movie action. The bleachers here were too far away for the tiny fixed lens to work clearly. But, it did preserve some drag racing history

In the movie film editing process, (frame by frame) sometimes things happen to create a new image. It is where one scene runs into the next and comes up with a double exposure photo. In the old 35mm film camera days, it was shoot the shot, back up the rewind handle, estimate how far back on the film strip you are going, then re-shoot a new image.

A double exposure shot is created with interesting images. But, as anyone can see, the double exposure is created with the hopes of the photo coming out, OK. Sometimes the image is blurred to no end and other times, it comes out with interesting images, day or night.
