I always wonder how many of these failures we read about were due to simple neglect? There's a zillion of these engines out there with about a half a zillon utter morons driving them and doing no maintenance on them, and yet most of them take it like a champ.
Or from improper builds or installations? They are just different enough from a SBC that you have to be mindful.
Or from just having a gang of miles? You buy an engine from the junkyard and toss it in your car, you're gonna get what you paid for. Far be it from me to accuse a junkyard or private seller of misrepresenting something to make a buck!
Sure they look like hell in most old cars, but people piss and moan about seeing a SBC in everything too. They're compact, tough, highly modifiable, and make good power in stock trim (and can be argued make power power for less money when modifying). I'd throw a nice 6.0 in my 55 in a heartbeat if/when my SBC shits the bed.
