I believe all of those Allards from post 1896 are at Laguna Seca, Mazda Raceway these days I think. Thanks for all of the great pictures!
Gary I don't know for sure... but I read when these photos were originally offered for sale that the roadster was used to promote a movie ? If that was the case, I suspect either "Devil on Wheels" or "Hot Rod" . The roadster did not appear in these movies with the writing painted on it...Or maybe just used to promote the sponsors ? At any rate my guess is late 40s. Here are a couple of of roadsters from "Hot Rod" the movie which used a lot of roadster footage from the earlier "Devil on Wheels" movie. There was a lot of interest in this roadster photo lot with the negatives as it brought 1k on EBAY last week. What's with the trunk lock ?
Growing up, our family started out with 2 cars, a station wagon for dad and the '48 Nash my mother drove. As the family grew our cars got smaller. We all piled into the MG TC and my mother had after the Nash, a 5th child in her stomach, while complaining the steering wheel was too close to her tummy. Great times back then.
Here is my Grandpa on his Janesville WI police department Harley servi car. Picture was taken up north at our cabin in northern WI around 66-67 when he was in high school. His mods to it was a straight pipe.
View attachment 2808584 Yes, my wife drove a Corvette year round in those days. Hey, we didn't think fiberglass would ever rot out, right? We'd chuck snow tires on it and with it's ideal balance it would haul up our mountain NO SWEAT! Drove it 100,000 miles in those 10 years. Never gave a thought to collectability. DOH!
