It makes me sad to see how juvenile arthritis has disfigured those poor kid's hands.

    Plowboy...

It is my opinion that all those automotive engineers and designers, from back in the day...those responsible for the beautiful organic/spacey forms and lines and fins and spheres and whatnot...

...held deep in their secret heart of hearts the hope that one day, in the far distant future, some savant agro-economist would homogenize those forms and render them as a cohesive unit. You have (or are) the manifestation of their faith, and you are fulfillng your destiny.

    All hail Plowboy!

That being said, I am gonna get back to making my radiator tanks and water pump drive shaft...sigh

    FABULOUS work

Bill your version sounds a lot classier than mine. Maybe I need to say shit like that to make everybody think I am a lot better at this than I really am. Ha Ha Ha

My version is, "I need a ______, let me go see what I have out in the shed to use for one." Ha Ha Ha

Doc, of course you already know this, but it is the video games and remote controls that cause this affliction.

Saw the Lander at the Lonestar Roundup last year and fell in love. Is it possible that I'm loving the fins even more than the rockets? Oh yeah!

Great work, and I can't wait to see the finished product, as well as the in progress pics. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Since this post is supposed to be of the frame, here are some more pics.

I put all of the rear suspension on it last night and got it all tacked on there. I can tell you that the 400 bucks I paid for that mock up motor was well worth it. Ha Ha Ha

you can also see the friction shocks that I ave mounted on the front.

I need to get a little muscle over this weekend to help with the lifting since my back is shot. I will put it all back together as a roller and then finish welding the suspension parts.

I put the outriggers on the sides in order to move the wishbones out further. That will give a little more room in the cockpit. I should have done that on the Lander, lesson learned I suppose.

I am going to take the body and haqve it media blasted. If all goes well with the suspension, I am going to have the driveshaft made on Monday. I can then begin to put the floor in it after I see what I have for room.

    Blowing "Bubbles" again?

  20. Aaron, can I ask a few questions? I'm planning a similar build but only using one donor car for the body (I'll post some renderings when they're ready) and am curious on the dimensions that you ended up with? Are you basing the dimensions on an existing body size (i.e. '32, Model A or T roadster)? How wide is the body where the cockpit and bubble will be, at the cowl and at the back of the body? Or, maybe a more accurate measurement would be the rear axle width - what is it from wheel mounting face to wheel mounting face? And lastly, how long is the body from the firewall area to the rearmost part? Hope I'm not too much trouble.

And, by the way, this is a very cool build and you are very innovative - I can completely thank you for the inspiration to start my own showrod project. Just as a teaser, the car has so far been christened "Sputter-nik" as it's off to a slow start. Hopefully, the momentum will increase now that I see yours coming together so nicely.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Steve, to make a long story short, you need to just find what rear end and tire combo you want to use and make everything fit that. you can get astros with very little backspaing thanks to the lowrider crowd. They give you that nice aggressive deep dish look when you put a big ol slick on there too. Any other wheel and you would either have to make wheelwells or make the body extremely narrow.

This rear end is 63 inches from outside flange to flange with a centered pinion.

the body is about 52 inches wide and the rear end is 54 inches wide at the bakcing plates. The bubble will be 42 inches in diameter.

Wicked mind, load of talent, kid. Any offer's ($!) on it yet? Want a 97X B/W Van Halen bumper sticker from back in the day?

  23. Thanks Aaron, that gives me a feel for where I want to be. I was thinking about 48" on the bubble but am looking at an oblong shape now as well - not quite an ellipse, more like a "curved triangle" shape, narrower at the front and wider at the rear for shoulder room.

I believe that Fritz used a 48 incher on his. You get into some problems getting the bubble that wide and the sheetmetal that narrow. You lose about 6 inches just from the curvature of most car quarters. That is, there is about a 3 inch bulge from the top of the panel to its outermost part.

Greetings from So. Cal.!! What's all that white stuff all over the ground outside your garage?! Seriously though, man that little Rod is sooooo tuff! I could just see George Jetson, not the cartoon geek, but a really cool George with a goatee, and bell-bottoms haulin' ass all over the place in that thing! Paint it Purple!

I don't think I could measure up to you either Billy.

The punk is getting neglected this weekend. I am back on that neglected stepchild known as the "Sea Hag". I put all the glass in it that I got from our friendly Alliance vendor Bobs Auto Glass. I think I am going to have him cut me a new set for the spacetruck. I think that baby will get a makeover next winter.

Let me know how much for the bumper stickers fellas! They would be an awesome addition to my garage wall.
