OK, first off, I've had great luck with FedEx and this is my first real "problem".

For giggles, I checked my tracking number to make sure a cam core I shipped out to Nielson Cams in UT got there. I'm not sure where they are located but, I can only ***ume that it isn't a city like NYC or Philly.

The correct delivery address was clear and Fedex confirmed this with their on-line tracking software. BUT since I did not specify that I wanted the package to be signed for (I thought this was a given) from the actual person who resides or works at the delivery address, they delivered it to someone on a block north of his place (ex: should have gone to 644, but was delivered to 744).

Fedex said that they had the person who lives at 744 sign for it (again-clearly seen through the on-line tracking software) and, according to customer service, they ask the person at that address to deliver the package to the correct address.

Now, I know, this sounds like complete ********. I tried calling Chris once I found out what happened, but I think his shop is closed and I left a message.

I them asked the rep, what happens if that person dosen't deliver it? The answer was that the driver will go back out and ask for the package back and deliver it to the correct address.

I asked, why not do that from the get go? Well, you guessed it, silience.

Hopefully this will have a happy ending. Just a FYI for anyone shipping to rural areas using FedEx.

Fedex did that to me once as well, delivered a part coming to me to a totally different address than was labeled. I tracked the package and called and thankfully they were able to go back and pick up my package and re-deliver it to me. Shipping companies are getting worse and worse. After a few il fated attempts to overcharge or re-charge my account for items Fedex and UPS screwed up on or damaged/lost I no longer have an account with either. I ship alot of stuff post offiice now but that may end soon too.

Ha. There's a FedEx driver that sleeps at the Old Marineland. I see his truck parked under a tree all the time. I wonder if FedEx knows..........

They are all bad!!! It doesnt matter who you use.

It is best to get an area Rep to deal with though and it helps smooth this kind of stuff out.

I am staying away from the US Post Office. We have had more parts stolen form the good old post man then any of the other guys. The post office was sending back open packages with "unable to deliver" on the return envolope.

I had a bad experience with Fedex myself, took over a month to get an ebay intake. I use only UPS and USPS. That sounds like ******** having someone sign for your package at the wrong address. I think there is some kind of law that if you recieve something thru a carrier, it's yours. I might be wrong, but still I don't want someone opening up anything I paid for.

  8. Must be a CAM Thing

I had an Isky 404-A flathead cam sent to a friend of mine for some testing. He sent it back, but my mail place 'PacMail' never called. I forgot about it and at least 3 weeks later was thinking "what happened to my 404-A cam?".

So I call PacMail and they call FedX . . . seems they delivered it to the Quiznos sandwich shop two doors down. The gang at the sandwich shop opened the damn thing . . . had no fricking idea as to what that hunk of metal was and put it in the corner. (Thank Gosh!)

I got my cam back - without any sandwich spread on it. The address was completely correct - so I guess the folks at the sandwich shop must have gone to FedX school . . . all they had to do was walk 20 feet down the strip mall and give it to PacMail (at least they didn't toss it out!)

You handle a billion packages a year and see if you make any mistakes.

BUT, if it's clear they F'd up (and it sur eloko slike they did this time), then it's clear they need to make it right. And it is not the recipient's responsibility to deliver it to the correct address for them. I'd start talking to managers (politley and calmy) until they did right.

Good point. My intent wasn't to bash, yet. Really to give everyone a head's up for the rep. said that if I specified signature by the addressee, they would have done that. Again, I thought that was implied that they would. I wasn't aware that it was something special.

    I'll keep you all posted.

We receive a lot of packages from FedEx and UPS at my work. There is always boxes that come to us in error. If it is to a local place close by we take it to them. Many times it is not and they [FedEx and UPS] come pick them up. What is funny is when they come to us looking for a package that was signed for 3 to 6 months before, and they expect us to have it sitting there. The post office has delivered so much mail to us in error our office people have an ongoing board where they post the most stupid ones. All in all, given the enormous amount of packages sent daily, they do a great job. But, they still loose a lot.

FedEx drivers are contractors and service can vary considerably. But I've had very good luck with them in general. Had a LaSalle trans that got damaged in shipping and they paid the full insurance and let me keep the trans on top of it. Last weekend I missed a Saturday delivery and I went to the depot, the woman there called the driver in his truck and an hour later he came by my house and dropped the package. I would pick FedEx over UPS any day. Service is hands down better and prices are better too.

I do believe Fed-Ex is now the express service of USPS. They got rid of their own and sub-contracted to Fed-Ex.

  16. LOL I get so pissed off every time I read something like this. Fed Ex, UPS, DHL(was airborne here), lone star overnight have all F***ed up on shipping items for me. They have screwed me out of money big time. And REFUSE!!!! Flat out refuse to fix THEIR mistakes. Fed Ex and DHL have both double charged me for shipping items, andddddddd on top of that , after I paid it, they RECHARGED my account, and Said that there were fuel surcharges, and misc ******** fees that were not charged for. I sent pictures, all the paperwork they requested etc, for what?? not a damn thing!!!! They said they had to charge those fees, and that basically I was screwed. So I canceled my accounts with fed ex, dhl, ups and lone star over night.

Good luck on getting it straight. I started using the BUS to ship many things.

I used to be a big FedEx cheerleader...........then the local depot hired an ***hole that changed everything. DHL may be a mile futher up the road but they are friendly and cheaper than FedEx.

I had a fedex claim for some T doors that were damaged in shipping, I was paid quick and got to keep the doors. I sent some 28-29 roadster quarter panels(sold for $750 on ebay) to someone on the east coast. They were supposedly taken to the right address, but the guy never got them. Fedex told me my package did not require a signature so they just left it there. They basically gave the guy the run around till it was to late to do anything.

the key to all of this is the quality of the employee which is usually tied to the pay scale (read corperate greed) the same holds true at your local auto parts store which was vented on here reciently. the lesson here is if you can provide service you can have all the business you want.

I ordered a header and the day it was suposed to arrive it was not on my porch when I got home. Checked their online tracking and it said it had been delivered. I decided to talk a walk down the street and check the neighbors houses. Several houses down there it was, on a neighbors porch. I grabbed it and walked home.. I have found fed-x packages on my porch for neighbors several times.

I have had my signature forged and presented for proof of delivery for packages that were manifested out but never actually shipped! UPS did that.

My company deals with UPS. While 99% of the time the service is great, we have had stuff get damaged while shipping. Rule of thumb: ALWAYS insure your stuff and insure it for a little more than the value. When they investigate our claims, the first thing they say is that WE didn't pack it good enough. Then, they only pay a portion of the value. I always insure the stuff we sell for the list price, even though our customer only pays 65% of the list. Insurance is cheap compared to losing the money on what an item cost.

These companies ship millions of packages a day, so things can go wrong, but you have to think ahead and cover your ****. Make it an even playing field.

Not necesarily related but I just built a garage. First real shop I ever had. Not that it was great but better than anything I ever had. Less than 2 weeks after it was done the Fedex guy backed down the driveway and caved in one of the doors. He actually had the nerve to ask if I wanted to file a claim...

Past that it was great. Claim was paid and all is good.

I have used them both(ups-fedex) to ship from my store. The difference between them is, UPS looses and tears things up! Fedex is better about not tearing things up but it is impossible to figure out their billing, and there is a lot of over charging. Which takes forever to get straight. If you have to ship things, I don't know what the solution is. (just don't ship)LOL

If shipping UPS and the item is valuable to you, insure it as a high value package. High value packages go in a different place in the truck (sometimes different trucks come get them) and are handled on a separate sorting line. UPS does not want to loose these items.

My father had an irreplaceable set of 6 original wheels for his '32 Auburn Boattail Speedster he was restoring and needed to ship across country to a chrome shop. The above info was given to me by a UPS district manager I was meeting with for work when I asked him about how to make sure the wheels were not lost.

tjm73 has a good point! Insuring it high ,if it has a high value ,will certainly get better handling in terminals but most of their union drivers don't give a ****. (ups). Fedex freight (independant drivers) do and so do the terminals. Another thing you want to do is package it so they can't tell what it is. When we shipped 20" to 26" tires and strapped them and put a label on them I was shocked at how many got lost! When we put them in boxes so they couldn't tell what they were they didn't get lost! Same thing with wheels that were shipped in their original boxes. The size ,bolt pattern and offset were on a label as well as the brand all over the box. When we double boxed with a plain cardboard box on the outside our losses stopped. I really doubt they were lost. more like stolen at some point. Cost us a pile. Takes forever to get an adjustment!

there are multiple divisions in fedex now, they all operate differently. fedex express is the 'old' fedex, overnight shipping. fedex ground is the cheap parcel service (direct compe***or to ups), fedex freight is the ltl (less than load, an old moniker differentiating between full truck shipments from one business to another, with no other stops, and a truck with multiple stops). freight shipments and ground are slower and cheaper. if you want a direct signature, you have to ask for it AND pay a little extra...be a smart shopper, no matter who you choose.

I'm lucky, my neighbor across the street is my fedex delivery guy. any packages come for me during the day he takes them home with him at the end of the day and leaves me the card on my door telling me he has em. never a problem with signatures, or packages stolen off doorsteps.
