but why make the budget work when you could just throw more money at it?? I definitely agree with you and I don't know why it's so hard for other people to figure out that the more we individually 'give' to the state, the state actually gets less money when our efficiency/economy is down. increased taxes DO NOT generate more revenue.

this bill is definitely two-fold, I guess already stated, primarily for money but the annual 'testing' is to set up a baseline or standard so in a couple years they can implement a p***/fail system for the older and cl***ic cars. which will be done, again, for financial reasons.

Check this out. One of the guys I work with sent emails to all of the Senators. He has his email set to tell him when one is deleted without being read...

    **** Senator Ashburn!

Senator Runner replied saying that he was voting against it. He said it's like "treating a car guilty until proven innocent."

Im sending my emails to all of them now. CALIFORNIA CAR GUYS put the SEMA site on your computer favorites. Look at it once a month to learn about the attacks.

If youve got an old car or you think you may get one someday, you must send these emails and call them too, if possible. Do it now, take 10 minutes or lose it.

Another thing. California allows thousands of cars and trucks to travel through the state that come up from Mexico. The Mexican cars and trucks have no pollution controls, no standards to meet, no smog inspections. If you have ever been near one of those cars or trucks you know it. They will choke you. The politicans and the air resources board and the dmv have us the citizens by the throat. They know who we are and where we live. They are choking more money out of us and taking away what we care about. Yet they allow the Mexican gross polluters to run pell mell and kill our enviornment.

Contact these idiots or you will be selling your ride to somebody in a state where they are not getting horsefu##ked, but you car will not longer have a current registration so you will be selling at less than full value.

Once again, I cannot fathom why anyone would choose to live in California. Your government is corrupt, incompetent, and has a history of limiting your personal freedoms. Plus, you folks are the ones who gave this country Nancy Pelosi (if she is an indicator of what women can do in office, I wholeheartedly support revoking women's sufferage).

Just my thoughts on the matter,
    John W. Leavesley

PLEASE, don't remind me of that!! At least I had nothing to do with her rise to power.

  18. Well another bad thing about it is, it is the test bed for most all the AQMD BS that eventually everybody else will follow!! so it will get to you soon enough!

  19. Sort of long, but here's a response I received from Senator Runner. Which by the way, is the only response I received. I think some of you guys need to spend some of your spare energy writing politicians, instead of *****ing to a group of like minded folks on the subject.

The way it sounds is the new bill will affect 1976-1993 vehicles, which are already being smogged. Granted, doing the check annually will be another $50 a year (what it cost last time for a smog).

Don't crucify me for being the devil's advocate, but it seems that they aren't re-introducing the smog checks to the current 1975 and older vehicles, just making the smog checks an annual thing instead of every 2 years.

    Still sneaky and underhanded? yes
    Am I still opposed? yes

On the other hand, I remember when I had to get my '63 Oldsmobile inspected for its smog equipment because it had a F*cking PCV valve.

Anyway, here's the letter from the senator:

    Dear Mr. Jolliff:

Thank you for your correspondence expressing opposition to ***embly Bill 3053 (Jones), which requires vehicles 15 years or older, except for pre-1976 model cars currently exempted from smog checks, to undergo annual, instead of biennial, smog inspections.

Last week, the bill was amended into this version. I oppose it because it seeks to justify doubling the cost of complying with Smog Check on a vast segment of the vehicle fleet under the supposition that statistically these vehicles are more likely to fail, or once repaired, more likely fail again at a later date. This argument seems to be predicated, at least statistically, on the philosophy that these vehicles are guilty until proven innocent.

AB 3053 is scheduled to be heard in Senate Appropriations Committee sometime this week. You may monitor the progress of this bill at www.sen.ca.gov/runner.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future regarding legislative issues of concern to you. It is an honor to serve you in the California State Senate.

    Sincerely,
    [IMG]
    GEORGE C. RUNNER, JR.
    Senator, 17th District

P.S. For information about the current status of the budget, please visit www.senaterepublicanbudget.com.

  20. Same here...that's why I put "OPPOSE A.B. 3053" in the subject line for their viewing pleasure. They have a generic out of office auto reply saying that they value our input and blah blah blah...

like BIGREDTODD said, put DEFEAT A B 3053 in the subject line of your email. Your contact is the contact that saves your *** from putting a catalytic convertor on your supercharged/carbed hot rod. Do it now or lose.

  26. I completely agree, the contribution of dirty air that this segment of vehicles contributes is laughable. It's all about money and finding revenue to support programs for people that don't contribute to the tax base. It just seems that people quickly scan a new smog bill and think that their cars are going to get towed away and melted into a Hyundai.

Folks need to spend 5 minutes and send an email before they jump on this thread and say "politicians lick their nuts" or other useless blather that we already know.
