It's a neat looking box, but I would be skeptical of anything that was lettered and painted by Roth AND Von Dutch.
Did they ever work on anything together?

Probably the only person who could really verify it would be Ed himself!

It's amazing how much Roth stuff has turned up since Ed passed away. I've been buying up Rat Fink model kits to airbrush of late, and a guy had one listed a few weeks back that was "autographed". It definitely wasn't Ed's signature, because I have two letters from Ed on my wall he signed, and it ain't even close! I've seen other real autographed items, and they look identical to my letters from Ed. Everyones lookin' to make a quick buck it seems....

I like the box, and it may have been done by some big Roth fan like myself as a tribute, and it's kinda' kool!

I'm no expert but I agree with some other posters. The shapes of the lettering don't look very refined.

Sure looks fake to me. Ed was more basic than that... He probably kept his brushes in an old tackle box or a paper sack or sumpin'

    seriously, no...

vd was a sign painter, never would have lettered like that (even bombed out of his mind.) anybody with that lettering "sign painter" on their box could not get work as a sign painter...

roth was also much better at lettering, and between the two of them wouldn't there be more striping?? these guys were great stripers, they striped everything. whoever made this wasn't confident enough to attempt pulling some lines. look at the lines on the flames, it looks like they're finger painted...

as long as he didn't pay much for it, it beats having a new box....

  6. nice piece of garage/bench art but doesn't look very authentic to me...I too would have bought them just for the fun of it...any pics of the insides?

Not my dad's artwork and the address on the box is not where the shop was located on Slauson. Maybe a "tribute" box someone did, but not anything that "Big Daddy" made or used. If you want me to take a closer look I'm in Bell... Darryl

Wow, welcome to the Hamb Darryl! We'd be interested in hearing anything you could share about your dad. I like the paint job you put on the Bike Truck better than what Ed did, hahahahaaa.

Well, I was going to put in my .02 and say it looked fake and unprofessional, but now there's no need. Welcome to the HAMB! Hope you stick around and swap some stories with us.

I met your dad back in the 80s at a BIG hot rod show in Columbus, Ohio. Big Daddy is still a big influence on my art. All the best. Slim

Welcome to the HAMB Darryl. If you're ever in my neck of the woods, stop by and take a ride on the Finkosel. I love your dad's work.

Looks pretty crude to be a Roth job. Probably some hometown street rod guy got tired of painting looney toons charactors on easter egg rods, had an old box and tried his hand at something "ol' skool".

Well I told you it would take a few days, Just got the email from my buddy Clyde, He forwarded this thread to Dennis Roth "Lil Daddy" because I couldn't find his email address, and it concurs with Darryl,...... all I did was cut and paste the email here,.....

Never have seen it! No doubt it is fake……..for one thing! Dad would of never put V.D.s name on his box. C’mon cant you tell that is not Dad’s lettering! Or R.F. on there…..Clyde you have dads original stuff…..Lettering and Art… just take a look! Guaranteed “FAKE” ……That is why you will never here from this guy he supposedly gave it to! AAHAhahhahahaaaaa! Lil’ Daddy
