I purchased my 1931 Model A coupe a few years back from a guy in Des Moines, Iowa who was selling it as a rolling project. I have spent some time off and on trying to research the cars history. So I thought I would give the Hamb a try to dig up some more history. I was able to contact one of the owners, he is 74 and owned the car from approx 1964 to 2001. He gave me some info, or what he could remember about its state when he owned it and I am trying to get some pictures from him. The car spent most of its life in Iowa...mostly Des Moines and Hartford. The car was set up as follows: Unchopped, unchanneled, no fenders Candy apple/metal flake Maroon/red color Buick Nailhead with 6x 2 barrels 39-40 juice brakes 40 ford wheels Some more info.... - The car supposedly won a "best of show" award at a big car show in Des Moines around 1962-1964. - The car was purchased in approx 1964 from a Bobby Noble of Knoxville, Iowa. - The Buick nailhead that was in it came from a crashed dirt track car, in which the driver died. The car has changed quite a bit since I acquired it....original frame and nailhead gone. The metal flake paint is still visible in some areas as well as the factory light green color. Does anyone from Iowa recall this car or know any history about it ??? Here are a couple pics...the way I got the car and during the current build. Thanks
I am grew up in Carlisle which is between Des Moines and Hartford. I can remember a model A from the area but it was blue and was owned by Hoppy Walters(sp). I will check with my Dad and see if he knows of this car. Jason
There's an older guy in the Des Moines area named Don Noble who's into street rods. I don't know him personally and don't have his contact info. But he might be somehow related to the Noble connected to your car. You could try to find him. If you can't find a solid google lead, you could try someone in the Iowa Street Rod ***ociation. Alot of the guys in there have been around a long time. Good luck and report back if ya find anything.
I know a Bob Noble that would be around the correct age for that time. I will see if I can get ahold of him tomorrow for you, maybe it's him.
Thats awesome....I really appreciate that....thank you A couple years ago I looked up all the Bob Nobles I could find in Iowa....quite a few...didn't know where to start.... Maybe you will be lucky.....
how about a "joe noble "i think he is retired from the local "hy-vee " grocery store chain ? he is a south sider in des moines ,hangs around the "hardees" cruise show in des moines ? maybe he is related ? looked in phone book ?cant seem to come up with # ?maybe somebody else will chime in ? mike "carryallman" wahl
Joe and Bob are freinds only. Both are into the old cars. Just don't know if either had lived in Knoxville back then.
From what I can remember from the conversation I had with Gerrald Hammond.....Bob/Bobby Noble had a brother and they both played around with the Model A....one of them supposedly crashed this car into a bridge or something....the car was pretty wild, scary even with the modded Nailhead....and after the crash they rarely drove it again.....thats when Gerrald bought it from them.
Bump......the car was at Water's Auto Body & Welding Service in Des Moines Aug. '03 having body work done.....
Sorry for not getting back to you on this. I have been by there a time or two and never seemed to see him home yet.
