I had something from the road fly up and hit my tank- dented it and then sprung leaks everywhere- its ranch wagon and ranchero only- just wondering if anyone close to Austin might know where I can get a tank fast! I need to get home. Plan B is to put in a fuel cell just to get me back to Kanada.

PM me here cuzz my phone is messed up right now-

I PM'd Bob owens- but I dont think hes back yet from the show.

Get a 5 gallon gas can in the back and run a hose into it, youll have to stop a little sooner but it will work and cost basically nothing, just some hose and a gas can and they are cheap.

Sorry about the bad luck. I have heard of a gas tank "bodo like" putty for emergencys like this. A cheap crutch to get home maybe? Ask at auto parts store.

The gas tank pookie works if the hole isn't too big.

About any tank that you can set in the bed of the truck and run a line from it to the original fuel line will get you home. It would be best to strap or tie it down so it doesn't move around. I drove my OT truck a lot of miles with one that way before I put the 35 gallon ss tank at the front of the bed.

Hell i would try to find any kind of tank for now with a autozone fuel pump special. Good luck!

  9. I would go the epoxt route...likely its leaking from the seam maybe?...which means you have 50% of your tank that is pretty leak proof with some sort of quick fix....and that is likely more volume than any 5 gallon can....but a 5 gallon can migh tbe good insurance if you run out in teh middle of nowhere....

I suggest a new repro Mustang tank.
When I got my 59, it was running on a 6 gallon plastic tank in the trunk

I was stranded by a bad tank one time in my 66 F100. I went the 5 gallon gas tank route.....and it got me home.

Buy several feet of rubber fuel line....put the gas tank on the floorboard....run the gas line to it and off you go.

Get two or three of them if you don't want to stop as often. Use the last one as your reserve tank....like a motorcycle.

    It's redneck.....but it works.

It goes without saying that you gotta drive REAL careful. If you get the tank with the spout in the cap, you can remove the spout and your rubber fuel line will slide right down into that opening....almost like it was meant to be there.

Take a bar of hand soap and rub into the leaks. The gas reacts with the soap and hardens. It will work! I've patched a 1/4 hole before. TP

  13. I JB weld quick, mine.......It worked.

    Someone sells new ones, too.

I did a temporary fix with some rubber tire plugs, got me home.

  17. OR you can do what we did last year when leaving Bonneville and 30 miles out of Wendover the fuel pump quit in the '67 Caddy....I can tell you you can gravity feed a 429 from a Anitfreeze jug to about 55mph all the way to Salt Lake City.....

the soap trick works. I did that for a couple of days until I could get mine fixed properly.

  19. Mashed a tank in Mexico once, took it out and layed up gl*** over the entire bottom of it. it got me back to the states where I could go junk yard shopping.

I know that a proper tank is probably the fastest and easiest solution just giving you an option.

If a seam is leaking.....do the bar soap trick.....it works! Just rub it HARD into the seam.

My *** was draging from all the walking at the round up so when I was by your ranchero I sat down in the box to take a break. I could smell gas and was going to mention it to you but I never saw you after that. Good luck, you sure don't need anymore " fire " in your life!!

I drove my motorhome with a 5 gallon jug on the p***enger floor across New Mexico and half of Arizona.I bought 10 jugs at the Petro truck stop and rotated them alot. The tank got popped by a piece of rebar in El Paso.
Just filled it for the run home and watched $120 run all over the Texas countryside.
    I was pissed.

They sell that crazy epoxy putty that supposedly stops leaks underwater at any Walgreen's. I forget what it was called exactly, but I'll bet that would do it!

    Damn bad luck.

I can only help with a boat tank in Iowa? Let me know if you get close
and still need a hand. No wonder I didn't see you yesterday.

JB Weld did it on my Galaxie when I had the same problem; that repair lasted me until I sold the car five years later. So far as I know it still works. Good luck man.

6 gallon boat tanks are available at some wal-marts. Pretty inexpensive. They should also have the fuel line to go with it.

Too bad Billy Mays bought the farm a couple of years back, I'm sure he had something for $19.95 that would have fixed it right up. :D

Seal-All sealant works too. I patched some rust-thru holes in a tank until I could replace it. It will even harden while gas is dripping. Wally Mart used to sell it but I can usually find it now at Auto Zone.
