The first fruits of my labors are offered up for the benifit of the HAMB to help spread the good word.

I have been working on my letterpress for a while to get it dialed in and ready to go. I now believe that I am ready.

Up for grabs is the first in a series of 6 posters from The Defiance Project. Printed on a rogue press hidden deep in the suburban landscape of the Kansas City Metro area. The print is 2 color on chipboard witha final size of 11 x 14 inches. Picture shown is 11 x 17 and will have the top trimmed before it is sent.

THIS AUCTION WILL RUN TO SUNDAY, MAY 15TH 11:59 PM CENTRAL TIME. no more no less! Regular auction rules apply: Get the money to Ryan with the appropriate info about this poster and when he gives me the OK I will send to you the poster.

    I dig that poster.

Used to work at a printing company years ago...

    Shouldn't it say "Breathe" though?

  11. Maybe it's like those Stromberg Coffee Mugs, and it means like, Coffee Breath. ??

None the less, it's rad, even if the word is spelled wrong.

Thought that I might have to clarify this sometime, breathe was not the modivation behind why I did the art. Think about what we do as a hobby, we bring new life. Breathe is too general but a breath can be noted to happen at a specific time. Everyone waits and dreams of their rods first breath during a build.

So to clarify therir is no misspeling only a different connotation: Breath as in the breath of life. Here is the dictionary definition...

    ~breath

n 1: the process of taking in and expelling air during breathing; "he took a deep breath and dived into the pool"; "he was fighting to his last breath" 2: the air that is inhaled and exhaled in respiration; "his sour breath offended her" 3: a short respite [syn: breather, breathing place, breathing space, breathing spell, breathing time] 4: an indirect suggestion; "not a breath of scandal ever touched her" [syn: hint, intimation] 5: a slight movement of the air; "there wasn't a breath of air in the room.

  13. Well that's way to much for my feeble mind. I thought it was like the old s**** of paper in my tool box that says THIMK. Done on purpose by a very very old man to who wanted me to figure that old Rochester for myself.

Can't bid this time my friend. Sorry.
    dat poster is da chit.

    You're gonna sign it right?

Ya it will get a signiture.

Usually I don't give indepth background on the reasons for my projects. People take things at face value regardless of the origonal purpose. That is what makes any art so great. Everyone has a different reaction, good and bad is totally relative in my mind. If it becomes memorable to someone during the process then it has served its purpose well.

Personally I am just having alot of fun! Thanks for the comments!

Bid it up guys! you got till sunday night!

  15. I just watched your 1911 Chandler and Price in action. Nice! Are you typesetting with hot lead too?

    It makes a marvelous noise.

That is nice two color work.

I have a cabinet of metal type that I use, 24 drawers right now. Handsetting the type gets frustrating depending on the size because its completely new to me. I have made alot of the beginner mistakes because I have learned it without and training. The large stuff is easy but with the 6 point Bodoni italic type you sometimes need tweasers because its like moving metal shavings. That and even with good eyes you sometimes need a magnifying gl*** when you set it because it all starts to blur together after a while!

Last of all - Thank you!

That poster is awesome! I love letterpress pieces. Damn I would love to have an old letterpress. I try to mimic the look in some of my work but it's just not the same as the real deal. Especially how the press actually makes subtle impressions into the paper as if it were embossed.

  19. Cody,
Next time your in my garage look up on my mantel. There's an old type setters rule, or prepress or printer depending on where you worked 80 years ago. Anyway it'll help a bunch, if you remember to find it and get it to you vehicle.;)

  20. 'Breathe,' 'breath,' whatever. It's friggin' ***s. Put me down for
