An amish machine shop close to here welds castiron. They just did a one of a kind engine block for someone I know. Someone had fitted valve seats too tight and cracked the block at almost every seat.
Hello, I picked this head up at a swap meet this last weekend because it was interesting and most importantly, cheap. After a little research, I have found that Ricardo designed improved heads for the Model T Fords. But, this one looks a little different than a "T". The water inlet is cut back at an angle and it is more square on the left side and rounded on the right. I'm just curious to know more about it and if anybody does, it will be you folks. Thanks in advance, Mitch
Interesting shape of the combustion chamber. I thought that Winfeild had to stop using the "Crows Foot" shape because it was Ricardo's patent. .
It surely does look like Dodge Brothers. The boss in the front would be for the fan. IS it for sale? What is the pat. date, can't read the year.
Thanks for the quick identification. The patent date is Nov. 13th, 1923. Overall dimensions are 8" by 21 5/8". And yes, I will probably sell it as I'm not much of a Dodge guy. Thanks again, Mitch
OK Banger experts, I am going to fit my new snyder 6.1 head this weekend, I have new studs and a B type gasket. Should I spay the gasket with copper spray? I did this with the existing second hand copper head gasket and got no leaks. but I am unsure about this new gasket. Brendan
You said your old gasket was copper. Is your new one copper also or the new style. If it is copper yes spray it.
Snyder instrusctions say no sealer. My last gasket on the stock head was copper sandwich and had been used but did not leak with copper spray, the new gasket is completly different see pics. Brendan
Those gaskets? They work fine with no sealer. Thomas head clamped to a B block for thousands of miles now over the past 4 years - never had a problem.
A little problem has cropped up on my build and I should have checked earlier. It looks like I may have model S Winfield carbs instead of SR carbs, not being famillia with Winfields I did not notice to now they are in good condition and I am trying to keep the build period will this effect the performance much on a street motor? Winfield use to say the S carbs did not need an accelerator pump but then later produced the SR. Your thoughts please.
OK its on, no sealer, I broke one stud, luckily it was at the front, I tried the weld on a nut trick about 4 times and could not get the weld to stick to the stud. So I drilled it out and re tapped it. I have run it for 20 mins as per the instruction and will re torque it in the morning. Then off for a drive for fathers day.
