Runs like a top!!!! This Winfield is defonitely a lower compression then the Cyclone that I had on... but it seems to have more power though??? Pulls more at lower RPM and seems smoother throughout the range of speeds I VERY happy with it...I've always though that cast iron was a better choice for a head, and this just makes up my mind... Ken(62pan), I'm running an A box in one car and a F-1 box in the other, stop up and I'll take you for a ride in each one.....
the more I think about it, flat motors really like that nice heat retention and dispersion of cast iron.
Alright! You gotta love the kick start. Sounds strong and healthy. Hows that 4-barrel set up working for ya? Gaters -
This is were I learned: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=331103&highlight=video Car sounds good!!!! . .
Thanks Guys! Yep...with my bad back, it's much easier to kick start it. I just wanted to demonstrate how easily it starts. It actually starts quicker with the crank than the starter, the starter isn't robbing power from the ignition.
hey suhr is that a red head or yellow head? i see you run an evans intake....any word on when they would have been made? I am wanting to stay pre 1940 on mine. Just wondering... cool rides to all....and cheers!
This head has the marking all polished off.... but I'm pretty sure it is a 6:1 "yellow head", with the straight tapered combustion chamber. I think it was milled a little bit, but still a bit deeper then the 7:1 that I have that is marked and very close to the 6:1 that i have thats marked. I don't think the Evans intake is 1940 or older....but I have no real facts to prove that. Seems alot of the ones from that period were rather plain, without names and whatnot.... I have 2 other ones that are real similar to the Evans but have no name on them, I always figured i would run one of those on a 30's style car. Zach
Hey guys, I need some help looking for an intake/headers. I've been waiting on my order from Reds forever, and am honestly getting a little tired of it. I know that Secrets of Speed and H&H carry banger intakes/headers but is there anyone else you know of? I have been keeping an eye on Ebay, but I've had no luck finding a single downdraft. Thanks for your help!
ack. I got my header from Reds and was not happy. I had to do a lot of clean up and additional welding to make it nice like I wanted a header to be. Also, the muffler shop had to bend the dump out away from the engine also to get a flange on. Hope your header experience is better than mine.
Elrod, saddly you are not the only person to tell me that. Reviews seem to be hit or miss, I decided to go with them based on the headers my buddy got. His seem to be decent quality, so it swayed my decision. Waiting 2 months for something that was to be shipped in 2 days is a little frustrating. If I hadn't kept my updraft and stock exhaust manifold, I would have been boned!
I had the same problems. For the price you can't really *****, but it still ****s that they can't make a quality product.
Thanks Elrod! My Pop zinged his fingers in the fan years ago, so he painted the tips of the fan yellow so he could see them. I had to repaint them yellow when I rebuilt the car!
my day job is up in the air if any one wounts custom headers I will lots of time. If I only make 1 the price will be hight but if I can make 4 or 5 I should be in the 400 range Bill
CD, can you show me an example of this "youtube i.d. code"?? What exactly am I after? Is it this? MkqZlMhdwgw This? v=MkqZlMhdwgw This? v=MkqZlMhdwgw&feature=channel_page Or, this? v=MkqZlMhdwgw&feature=channel_page
Hey Old-Soul, I got my "scalded Dog" intake real quick from Charlie Yapp (Secrets of Speed). While I can't seem to get my 94 carb (idle) issues resolved (should change with the new stromberg coming from Uncle Max) the intake looks great. They are also about ready to start selling their 2 piece cast iron headers which I am strongly considering. Good luck, Tom
Thanks Tom, appreciate it. I was looking at their intakes, I should call and see how long if a wait I'm facing before their manifolds are ready to ship. The season is almost over here, so if they won't be ready for a while then I won't mind...so long as they are honest up front about the time I should expect to wait and don't keep handing me excuses.
We're still working on her. We took it to Bonneville to get tech to look at it. Ron Jolliffe looked it over and liked what we had done. He's a super nice guy, and his comments were a "shot in the arm" to our build. Sam
